It's been years I have wanted to order my very own custom bonzer from CB. I am a married man with a son - on a budget and don't NEED a new board but rather lust for one. LUSSST. My wife passes my board rack everyday and has never noticed when a new craigslist rider is on the wall so I feel i can sneak it. My finances are transparent to the family which makes springing for a $850 board a bit difficult. Has anyone snuck a new board in their quiver with some financial reworking... I am guessing taking a new credit card out would get noticed with the mail coming in... scared to sell my sperm... nay cant sell my sperm... Only thing I can think of is making and selling ukes or guitars out of cigar boxes which is an old hobby of mine to save up. That will take forever. Looking for genius ideas so I can keep secrets from my wife... GO
I buy what I want, when I want. I have never hidden anything from my wife and she trusts I won't overspend. That said I never buy anything without selling something to get the money. I recycle and am still recycling gifts through resale from 20 years ago. Just sell some stuff and buy the new board.
Well, it sounds like the quiver is pretty full if she is not noticing a new board showing up. Then again, women notice EVERYTHING! Maybe she jsut hasn't said anything. Anyway you could part with one or two, then save a little cash to offset price? Either way, good luck!
Haha. Nice. I am in the same boat. Wife and I share bank account. My checks go right in the account every week. She handles all the bills and everything. Makes buying a christmas gift difficult. If I take large amount of cash out, she pulls the "dont spend all that on me" BS, knowing that its a lie. So, like last yea, I had to open a Best Buy card online, and check the mail every day until it came. But for reals, just get a new credit card, have it billed and shipped to your work address. Bam... Done deal... Also depends on what line of work you are in. But I get bonus/commission in seperate checks, sometimes cash. If you get an extra check, or anything like that, just take the check to the banks its drawn from and cash it as if you are a non-account holder and there will be no trace of it on your banking records at all.... My wife knows every board I own, every wetsuit, even every pair of boardies. She runs a tight ship. I could NEVER get away with sneaking a new board in. I would have to pull some old "So, I had to drive up to Charleston for work today, and the craziest thing happened. I was on the 170, and over in the gutter, right off the side of the road, was a brand new, perfect surfboard. So, I pulled over, waited with it for over 30 minutes, hoping to return it to its rightful owner, but I had to move on, so look. I have a brand new surfboard, and I paid nothing for it.... Or, get the credit card, get the board. Get it shipped to your work. And then before you bring it home, mention over dinner that you have been calling and emailing this radio show because they are doing this big surfboard give away. Keep mentioning it, then one day, you just run in the house all excited, like "Babe, I WON! I WON!" Haha. classic.
But yeah, when ever I come across cash, it goes directly into the ol' secret stash. For a rainy day. Never know when you may want to drop a couple hundred on something that may not be "in the budget" As long as you got milk in the fridge for you kids, and you ain't spending the rent money on a board, do what you gotta do.
some good ideas in here. Im a salaried man so no extra dough to throw around. board I'd like to buy similar to below. http://store.mollusksurfshop.com/collections/surfboards/products/60-campbell-brothers-mini-85 Has anyone actually posted pics of GF or wife for you Metard? Maybe I will have to wait for a bonus... earn a bonus rather. anyone want to sell me a super F_ing sweet CB Bonzer on the cheap?
I'm amazed you guys live like this "she runs a tight ship?". I would never have gotten married or would be divorced if I had to answer to anybody. My wife does whatever she wants, she has gone on more vacations without me than with me, this is because I run a busy seasonal business that doesn't allow me to leave. Even if I didn't run this business we would always be going off on our own and coming back together when we wanted. To be fare most of my friends are in the same boat as most others, their wife runs everything and has the final say on most purchases etc. it helps that all the money I make goes right into the common fund and other than an occasion surfboard or something for my boat I never buy anything. My clothes, shoes etc are in tatters and are replenished by Christmas gifts usually. It doesn't hurt to buy things that can be resold, other than food most anythng I buy can be traded or resold to recoup some of the expense. One buddy of mine never cleans his garage because that's where he hides his toys from his wife and she refuses to go in there. I've come out and told him he needs to make a change in his life if that's how he's forced to live.
Or, start collecting a bunch of your sh** that is laying around, that "she doesn't notice" and start selling the sh** on craigslist or ebay... Slowly building up the fundage.
If she bought $900 of makeup she already had 3 boxes of, Id be pissed. I answer to her, she answers to me... not the debate here bc we good. I am saving for a new house so every dollar is important. Just fishing for inspiration on next steps and some tit-for-tat
I once lived that way too. It was called being single =). Truth is, I love spending time with my wife and family. I would rather be with them, then off doing anything else really. But surfing is just a quick break from all that. Wife knows that. I surf everytime there is swell, so I can't complain. But the finances and stuff, that is just married, live with a kid stuff. It was never like that before. Even when we first got married. But I have been the only one working, for the most part since my wife had our daughter. My wife does NOT like not having her own money and all that. It's not that I don't want her to work and stuff, but when I am "bringing home the bacon", it prioritizes my job, and I can't adjust my schedule and make time for her. So, with the sacrifice of her not having her own money, "our" money or "my" money had to become available to her. Its not about me not being able to spend money. I just bought a long board last month (with her approval of course =)) Its about transparency. And really, the only thing I spend money on is beer and gas. Like everyone else says, clothing game gets replenished at christmas and stuff, but I have everything I need. I don't go out spending it on random stuff ever. She doesn't trip on what I buy. Good beer, nice steaks, the occasional call to a buddy for a little something extra, a la California if you know what I mean.... So its whatever. Its just about transparency, and on the real, if I go dropping $500 every couple months on a new board, then my wife has every right to go buy a new coach handbag once a month too. That is where the slope gets slippery.... She runs a tight ship, meaning, I make sure to make enough money to support my family. She actually makes the money goes where it is supposed to. I couldn't even tell you how much money is in my checking account right now. Savings, I know cause we never touch it. I never look at the bank statements. Wifey could be embezzling money all day and I wouldnt know it. All I know is that every time I swipe that debit card, it works. Other than that, I just keep on keepin on.... If my wife didn't handle the finances, I would probably be broke anyway, so I shouldn't complain. Regardless of how much money I have ever made or accumulated, I have never been good at managing it. In recent years, I finally paid off all my debts, college loans. I have a clean slate with the IRS and everyone else. I even have a decent credit score, so now, why not let a responsible person make sure I don't spend money that I dont have.
I'm in the same boat BWM...no bonus in my future and I can only buy 1 board--sometimes 2 a year (when I gut my quiver a bit). However, I'm sure you can pick up a quality stick like that for less...Brian Wynn makes a pretty solid bonzer and would cost you almost half that without the tint. What about craigslist...posting WTB adds on a few surf forums. Or even attempting to make a trade...In NJ surfer supplies sell the CB bonzers...possible they may have a few used. As for spending $900 for a poly...no thanks...when you could get it for less/used or from an EC shaper. Further...I'm sure your wifey would appreciate the "thrifty" route rather than shelling out that much...given your saving for a house!
That's a good point, my wife actually holds the purse and does all the books for us as well. I would be a wanderer without her taking care of those things. I guess I have such a consistent track record of not spending that when I do she's actually happy to see me take something. In fact whenever I talk about a new board, wetsuit, camera or boat accessory her first response is " you gonna go get it? " she will even try to talk me into it sometimes and I have to say, I just thought it was interesting that's all, to get her to drop it, lol. She has to buy things like new clothes etc for work and feels guilty that I live like a pauper. A completely free pauper, but a pauper none the less. When a friend was going to El Salvador and invited me, she was on me everyday to book the flight. She said I have takes 10 vacations to the carribean, California, Montana in the last 6 years and you haven't left the neighborhood, pleas go so I don't feel guilty when I book my next flight, lol.
