I'm shocked at how many grown men can't handle their money without the help of a woman, pretty sad fellas. My wife and I share an account and we don't care what each other buys. I blow money on surfing sh*t, she blows money on shopping and buying clothes she don't need, thousands of shoes, but it's all good, we work hard for it. But seriously dudes, don't be talking about how momma runs sh*t, that sh*t is weak...

I would start buying more groceries every week, use the debit card, cash back $20 to start and if first couple weeks go ok up the cash back to $40. It will take a couple months but you could go ahead and put down the deposit then save while you wait.

I don't take mine caveman style and hit her in the head with a club and tell her, "me man, you woman, I rule". But I do tell my woman what I am buying out of respect. She wouldn't stop me and I wouldn't stop her, but I am sure we have both helped guide each other on some purchases that we probably did not need. Sorry if that comes off as weak, or not having a pair, but that's just how we do it.

If you have cable or satellite TV get rid of it. That money will buy you a couple new boards every year. Put up an antenna if you want to keep watching a little TV.

I'm a big believer in setting precedents.

Before i married my wife we talked about having our own money. This was very important to me. a certain percent of my wages go into my own private checking account each month. it is more than enough to buy whatever i want. if a box arrives at the door addressed to me i don't get a "what did you buy and how much was it!" i get a "cool, what did ya get". also, i set the precedent that i won't watch girly movies. i've stuck to it and havn't watched a girly movie (ie the notebook and traveling sisterhood of the pants etc) since i've been with my girl.

laundering your own money is no way to live.

I guess when you break down some of the stuff us married dudes with kids are saying, yeah it may sound weak sauce a little. Its not a chosen way of life or anything, I am just trying to keep it real with ya'll.

I mean, I don't sit there asking for "permission" and stuff when I want things. If its a big item, and I really want it, I will address it before I buy it. Just out of respect. I guess the point I am making is, once we start sharing finances and stuff, every SINGLE transaction I make, send an immediate message to both of our phone apps. My wife doesn't need to ask me where I ate lunch. She already knows. That is just the world that we live in, and I don't feel the need to have some separate account. Cause it is what it is. She sees $60 come out the ATM after work one day, she knows what that went to. She knows why I am up to. Thats life. And her and I are okay with each other... I have been out on my own since age 18.

Went to college and all that, but never took a penny from the parents, never need help from NOBODY my whole life. So, don't get me wrong. I got married just a couple years ago when I turned 30, but I took care of myself, travels and spent a LOT of money in my 20s. Never needed a woman to do that...

I am just saying, when you let someone start handling the money, that is super meticulous and organized, things just go smoother. Most of my 20s, I feel like I would get late payments and late fees and sh** just because I would forget. Or blow things off. That stuff ads up. Not that I didn't have the money, I just woulnd't pay attention to my bills. If i ever dialed my cell phone and it didn't work, I knew it was time to pay a bill, ya know. Dumb, young sh**....

Just saying, I don't think any of us are prisoners here. We are just being honest about the transparency. And in my case, until my daughter is in school full time and the wife is back working full time, all the money comes from me. And my daughter and wife come before me. So it's only right to give them first crack at things they want to buy for fun or leisure. And if there is any left over for me, cool, ill go buy a board.

Thats just how sh** be sometimes, ya heard? I don't feel bad about any of it. I surf when I want. I buy what I want, when I want it, because I am very selective and really have no needs in life, so once a year, when I want a board, I will get one. Cause I am not out buying baseball cards and clothing for sure.

surfed this morning. Warm, small and clean. Messed around on the LB for an hour. Was aight.

P.S. Not to mention the fact, that I am a few months away from owning a home down here for a full year. The wife and I have a list of about 20, expensive, remodeling projects that we want to do... And once a month of so, we try and bust one out.... So there is stuff like that too....

So, if I come home tonight, say that I want to have John Tolly shape me a new board next month, my wife would probably be cool with it. But I would expect her to at least say: "Sure you want to buy a new board" For that amount of money, we could probably lay hardwood on the whole second floor like we have talked about. Or turn out downstairs, back patio into an indoor patio with sliders, like we want to do.....

There is a lot of stuff on a "Family" plate, that I would not like to overlook in good conscience just to get another board. I mean, what is 13 boards if you have 12. If the wife would be WAY stoked on hardwood floors, then I should probably be a man, and go that route.

No need to apologize my man. Just bustin balls. In our house all our bills are on auto pay so neither of us has to worry about that. We just go to work and live our lives. The less each person has to think about money or paying bills the less stress for both people. I realize not everybody can set their finances up that way, especially living check to check (like I used to), but the goal should be to at least have your bills paid for without even looking at your account or writing checks or calling in payments or anything.

I check my balance here and there just to be safe we aren't getting too low. She keeps an eye on any erroneous charges, but that's about it. Neither person needs the other's approval before buying things but a heads up on anything major is usually preferred just so neither person is caught off guard, but I don't tell her no, and she don't tell me no. Happy wife = Happy life, just don't be one of those dudes who let's his wife control every aspect your life. That's all I'm sayin dude.

Mannnn...TRUTH here! I've kind of gotten onto doing this the past few years. There are real gems for sale on Craigslist for under $200 fairly regularly and often under $100. Many of them are in need of only two things to add $100 to their value.

    strip off the grime
do an hour or two of ding repair.

dump the now nice looking board for around $200 and pocket decent money for a couple hours work.

Here are a few recent CL examples:
bought nasty looking ...Lost RNF for $80 surfed it for a year sold it for $150
Rusty Dwart with a missing FCS plug for $100 solid it for $200
Old grimy Lightning bolt for $75 cleaned up sold for $350.

That's cash for a new surfboard, plus use of a sick Lost RNF for a year for a doing maybe 20 hours of ding repairs in the evenings.

I also love cycling through 2-3 boards every year this way...bringing home even a cheap $100 board is kind of cool, I feel like I learn a lot about shapes I like or don't like and that knowledge is free or even comes with a little profit.
