This is that BS.... http://www.islandpacket.com/2014/07/14/3210742/photos-12-foot-alligator-walks.html I would poop in my trunks if this guy swam by me in the lineup. Gators only get in the salt water if they are sick, usually to remove parasites. Why does DNR have to kill it? It was just coming back into shore. They are only supposed to kill them for being a Nuisance... Because a gator gets in the ocean to clean off parasites, and harms no one. Doesnt interact with anyone?? They gotta drop the hammer on him... This is that bullsh**
We have had at least three of them sighted near the Pumphouse over the last month or so due to heavy rains, along with a coyote. I get the willies thinking about blind ten foot gators in the lineup. If I want to get eaten by a gator while surfing, it would be nice to be in Costa Rica getting some barrels.
Yeah, it's just a strange relationship that they have with these animals. Big part of tourism, everyone wants to come down and see them. Plantations pay to have them in their ponds and stuff. They are all pretty timid and know not to mess with humans, but the second on of them takes a walk, they get scooped up, removed then shot. It's like being in a zoo for them really.... We don't have a single light on the island at night. Every side road is pitch black, not lights on the beach after 10 to protect all the sea turtles, but the town loves having the gators for photo ops, but god forbid they do something natural, like go into the ocean to remove their parasites, and then peacefully walk back across the street... Uhh oh, better tag em and bag em dano... It's like seeing a bear at Yellowstone. Ohh a bear, he is trying to eat the food on that picnic table. SHOOT HIM! People can't hunt gators or kill them at all without a special permit, but then the goverment is like wow, there are a ton of gators now... Ya think?
