3/2 does the job. If you are lucky enough on your stay to get a bump surf crescent beach for some rolling mushers with a longboard. Good luck with the parking lot there; If you make it down you will understand what a 33 point turn is. If you like your waves with grindin In Yo Face barrels over 1ft of water go to turtle beach on an incoming tide. Your best bet is a 15-20 min ride to Venice inlet for ride a bit longer than the shoulder hopping beachbreaks. And check out Wannasurf.com... you'll get a better idea

depends on where your traveling from, if your from the NE area, then you could probably get away without a suit at all :D
temps this yr dropped very low, but by march I expect they will have become more normal. I can usually get away with a 2mil LS spring or a 2mil SS full, and only occasionally have to break out the 3.2, this yr however, I was "under gunned" in the suit dept for a couple of days as the water was in the low 50's and the air was the same or colder. just a tad cool for a 3.2 with no booties/gloves/hood ;)

anyways, the advice above is pretty solid, but you could also take a drive along the beach and find decent waves at many spots along the way. the gulf is all beach break, so the sandbars shift constantly, except around structures in the water, which usually keeps a pretty decent bottom.

thanks for the advice guys...especially d0sitmatr...you have given me a lot of good advice on a few florida threads i put out there...i appreciate that.....I'm gonna be in St Augustine for a week and Siesta key for a week and figured i would need some kind of rubber for the water, but coming from new jersey all i really have are thicker suits, so i figured i would have to buy something thinner... just trying to get an idea on what I need to get...This really isn't a trip i planned more of a family thing, but i was hoping to get some surf in while i was down there..... thanks again guys

Lido parking is good just park at the south end of the public beach by the big condo. Mostly short boards with a very consistent wave. They pumped sand on the beach last year and its created some good sandbars breaking really good.

that is the first time Ive heard of beach "re nourishment" actually doing good things for the sandbars :)
just dont expect it to last, in Naples, when they did their first dredging, it actually did help the breaks for a brief time, but it didnt take long for all that sand to deposit itself further off the beach and now its extremely shallow.
