Does anyone know about the tendons in the meaty area under the thumb? I severed a tendon and a hand specialist sutchered it back together in the ER. Had to open my hand quite a bit to find the ends of the tendon which kind of broke like a rubber band. Does anyone know why my index fingers would still be swollen andnot showing any signs of going down? I am in a sling to keep the hand elevated. I will see the plastic surgeon today who fixed it. Of course I want to know when I can surf again. Had to be winter............... Any thoughts? Any doctors or anyone who has been through it?
rub some cannabinoid oil on it. a plastic surgeon really..? moneybags brah. also, doesnt sound like he "fixed it". swelling can be caused by a number of reasons, can u post a pic ..of the said hand and describe the exact manner in which you happened to mishap like so?
you had a lot of trauma to that area! not unusual for the swelling to pool to other parts! just keep a eye on color, temperature of the area and be away of how you feel, fever! these are signs and symptoms of infection! just because your other fingers are swollen doesn't mean somethings wrong, besides the obvious! keep it elevated!
Definitely came to the right place for medical advise.. you have a bacterial infection that if not treated immediately will turn into a dancing alien that will destroy your entire hand. You will never surf again. One less in the lineup.
Don't knock it until you see how the big the tits on his thumb are going to be when the doctor is done.
Useless I forgot how many twits are on this website that hide behind a computer screen. I was hoping there was a doctor that can give some useful information. Nice life posting sarcastic answers bc that's what surfers do right? ***gots
It takes a while for the inflammatory fluids in your hand to be drained away. Remember, it is your extremity, it is distant from your trunk, and the veins and lymphatic drainage system are both small, even minuscule. Give it time. Elevated your hand when sitting at home at night might help drainage. Good luck; you will need to PT to work it back to have as full range of motion as possible. Be patient, and remember this--there will always be waves when you return to surfing; the ocean isn't going anywhere....
it wouldn't be SI if everyone was nice! its part of the game bro! don't take it personally! how many real doctors have time for this nonsense? not many! we haven't heard how your appointment went yesterday, well!
