Asked the local shaper about install a 5th FCS plug on my quad fish... This was his response "Yea man. Its not a problem to install the double round plugs, but cant do fcs fushions after glass job. $75" Did he means fusions or cushions? Any shapers want to fill me in here before I respond?
Yeah. Also, I believe the fusions were actually meant to go with epoxy boards. Something about the plastic on top of the plugs not bonding well with poly. If it's poly I'd just go with the round plugs. He seriously said $75 for installing 2 of those little plugs? I'm assuming by 2 you mean 2, like just for 1 center fin right?
I should have said 9th and 10th plug. Here is a pic of my quad fish. I want to have a thruster setup available on it.

He is the only shaper on the island. I surf with him all the time. He does great work. I would pay him $75 just to support his cause locally. It's not like there is a ton of work to be done around here =) It is pricey though. I was thinking 50 max, but this board is cherry after more than 4 years of riding it. Not a scratch on her, so I want it done right. I thought about doing it myself and got some great advice on here. I could ask around in Charleston and see what they can do up there.
Go for it. I'd charge $50, but if the guy does good work, and he's the only game in town... it is what it is. Fusions are designed to be done pre-glass, but can be done post glass. It's just not as likely to come out as clean. Fusions are my system of choice right now, but everybody has their favorite. Plugs are no problem, and designed to go in post-glass, but with an extra reinforcing patch. It's likely you won't get that extra patch on an after-gloss retrofit, but ask... he might do it, and re-gloss. Maybe that's why he's charging $75... to do it right!
Thanks. I will ask him a few more questions. Just got a text back from Micah, who shaped the board for me. He said 3 1/4" from the end tips of the board, otherwise at least a half inch from the end of the stringer". His tip of the day "Watch our for the leash plug on the other side".... Very good point. Ha.
