Alright guys, i really want to shape my own board! Pretty exciting times. I am a dedicated guy, and once I start something, I plan on succeeding. I just really need some guide lines. I have been doing some research and came across http://greenlightsurfsupply.com/ great site, just seems a bit pricey on resin. But then again, that resin may go along way. Anyways I would appreciate any/all advice, comments, ect. Thank guys! Easy day

ive shaped 4 boards, all using supplies and techniques from greenlight, all of which came out ride able. they'll give you everything you need to know and support if you have issues along the way...and theyre all cool as hell. hit them up and go for it!!

double the thumbs up on Greenlight. Brian's prices on epoxy are about the best I've found, same on glass cloth by the yard. Definintey use Resin Research epoxy and NOT West System from West Marine. The stuff is durable, but very expensive and sands like concrete (my brother works on boats).

You will not find a more enthusiastic cheerleader than Brian at Greenlight.

Using epoxy, which is mixed 2:1 part A to part B, I buy one gallon of A and 1/2 Gallon of B. I can do two shortboards (7-0 - 7-6) with that quantity. I like to use 6oz glass, two full layers top, one bottom with a small tail patch and two hotcoats.

For RR Ce and KK the blue is part A the clear is part B, it is a 2:1 2 parts resin 1 part hardener. 96 oz kit will be enough for 1 full board, 1.5 gallons as mikey said will be enough for 2 and ding repairs usually, and is cheaper than buying 2 96 oz kits. hope this helps

One layer each side with a slight overlap. Long or Short + Fins . Save your scraps .

7 yards for a shortboard... 30 yards will get you about 4 boards. That's for standard construction - two layers on the deck, one on the bottom.

Surf Source for fabric and Fiberglass florida for resin. Seem to be about the best prices I found. Swaylocks is a great website for research and assistance along the way. Theres plenty of info out there. Good luck!

Google surfboard shaping supplies for more sources. I have been using Greenlight because they are local. I found SurfSource and only used them to obtain parts to modify the exhaust port of my plainer.

SurfSource is awesome! The Fiberglass is way cheaper then Greenlight. What fins are easier/cheaper to instal FCS or Future?

Hey Vbutton, keep in mind shipping cost my man, really the prices everyone are all around the same. varies between a few bucks here and there total. plus if you ordering from 1 place usually try to stick to one place. shipping will be much cheaper if you stick to one company. if you order a blank from company x and resin from company y thats double shipping now, if you order both in bulk it is one shipping cost usually much cheaper than buying separately.

    As far as fcs/futures

futures install kit $205.00+ plus $7.00+ a box 2 part route requires taping box's (pre lam)
FCS Fusion $75.00 install kit w/o router $7.00+ a box 1 part route comes with box stickers )pre lam)
FCS X-2 Full installation kit 100+ 3.75+ per plug (2 per fin) many pieces required for correct install (holesaw, borer bit, h-pattern bit, scribe tool, dummy jigs, quick set jigs, ect....)No tape required (Post Lam)
Probox (fcs compatible) Install kit $41.00 $8.00+ a box single part route/ resin dam system. Requires taping (Post Lam)
