Enrollment is now open for the Surfboard Design and Construction course at BCC in Lincroft. Hands-on course covers the basic principles of physics and materials science applied to surfboard design, construction and performance. Students participate/collaborate in all phases of the design and construction of a single surfboard using both traditional and modern tools, techniques and materials. Class lottery on the last night determines who wins the board. Topics: shaping (foam and blank selection, planshape, rocker, foil, rail profiles, bottom contours); glassing (materials selection, lamination, artwork, hotcoating); fin placement and installation. Free board building instruction guide and design theory manual to all students. Complete board built in four consecutive nights, August 20-23, 6:30-9:30pm. It's a lot of fun, and you'll learn a LOT. Enrollment is limited.

Post questions here, or PM me, to find out more.

Visit the college website and register online at www.brookdalecc.edu/bcd or call 732-224-2315.

I think it's $199, but call the school to check that. It's between $179 and $199, I'm sure.

Too bad I'm down south. This looks like a lot of fun and very educational.

Guys and girls who take this surfboard building class at Brookdale get a coupon for heavy discounts from Greenlight for materials to shape their boards at home. Discounts on our shaping and glassing room rental as well.
We'll deliver materials to the class if it helps anyone who doesn't want to drive to our shop in Manasquan to pick stuff up.

For those who have already signed up (8 so far... thanks!) I recommend buying your materials ahead of time and getting set up before the class starts. To make the most of the class, attend the first session on the first night, then go home and do the first step on your own board the next day. Come to class again that night, and do the next step the next day on your own board... and so on... repeating what we do each night on your own board while everything's fresh in your mind. The guys at Greenlight will help you out with tools and materials, and give you exactly what you need to get started... a polyurethane or EPS blank, the right resin to match, cloth, supplies, tools... everything you need, from guys who are experienced, talented, and super cool.

Anything like this in Virginia Beach?

Anyone know if TCC or ODU has ever offered any classes like this?

Any spots left for the class? Told a guy at the shop about it and he's interested in signing up.

Anybody know of anything like this down here in Florida? If it were within a reasonable driving distance i may consider giving it a shot
