Here ya go DawnP, head South to Cocoa! LOL I know it's a little old...

New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 2010 had thirteen unprovoked shark attacks with one of them being a fatal attack. Statistics show that this is the most likely place to have a shark attack and shows no sign of slowing down in 2011. There is one particular area there that they call the “red triangle.”

I respect the fact that you are an opinionated one, much like myself, but your radar is way off my friend. See, when you live in a place like FL your entire life, you get kinda use to smallish sharks in the water, and don't worry much about them, it's just how it is here, nothing to worry about usually, sure accidents happen, BUT, even with all the activity in the water, it's still way more likely that I would get into a fatal car crash on my way to work in the morning. Are we all suppose to drive around in our cars / trucks in fear because of the statitics? No we don't do that do we? or do you? Nobody is trying to be manly or macho or w/e, it's just a fact of life my friend.

As for covering ground in FL, you bet your ass I do. I live 1hr and 50 minutes from Cocoa Pier, 2hrs from New Smyrna, and nearly 2.5hrs from Ponce Inlet, and I hit one of those spots EVERY week if there is a rideable wave. During the week i'll hit up the Gulf for an after work session, a 30-45 minute drive from my office. I'm committed, what can I say? Having a body of water to the East and West of my home has it's advantages though, so although I drive a lot, i have lots of options and almost always a wave to be had.[/

I surf Cocoa too, it's not old to me, I still love that place, just doesn't get as good as often, but when it does i'm there.

I don't know about that fatal attack though, pretty sure that wasn't at the Inlet, last I checked no fatalties ever happened there. I think it was another beach further down south if I recall correctly. There are a lot of bites that happen at the Inlet, but 99% of the time it's a minor incident and results in a few stiches or nothing at all. So although the stats are high, it's a bit misleading.

As I said before, I'm not talking aboot little spinner sharks.........shoots bra, I used to see them in Corolla, NC sometimes. I didn't get out of the water.

I thought the main premise of this discussion was seeing a respectable-sized dorsal fin appear. Again I'm not talking aboot small, non-threatening species of sharks.

And DPS, that's good that you're dedicated. It's not where you live but how often you're there. Ya know what it is that I be sayin' ? But I had to test ya to see if you were a driving fool or not. I guess I'll give ya the benefit of internet doubt.

But anyways people, there's wayyyyy too much shark talk going on here. Y'all are going to jinx someone.

Yea its a fact that you can be killed in a car way more easily than by a shark but If I see a drunk driver on the road I get the hell away from them. . . Same with sharks, big one in the water I'm getting out. If you don't respect the animal in its home it might bite ya in half

The "better chance of being struck by lightning" theory goes out the window when you are that close to a shark. Just like your chances of getting struck by lightning go way up if you're playing golf in a lightning storm.

Yeah, I liked Cocoa a lot! Right after I moved to DE, my mom sent me an article about someone being bit near the pier. Nothing serious, but still a bite. One time I had something brush my leg there, kind of freaked me out. But there were quite a few people out, so I moved over about 4 yards, at the time thinking that was good enough... LOL

Fair enough, I’ve said a few times now that if it's a BIG shark then I’m definitely outta there, fortunately I’ve never been graced with the presence of a fish of that size, except some dolphins, seen a few big ones around these parts, but I welcome them in the lineup and find them to be very friendly and amusing. Thanks for giving me the benefit of the internet doubt, I know it's hard to take anything you see on here at face value, but I assure you I only speak the truth, i'm a very "call it how I see it" kinda guy ya if ya know what I mean SJB

25 miles is a very long way out... And they were shark fishing... They had it next to the boat because they were chumming the water.
Big difference from them cruising the beach
