The video of "Bernie" looks pretty legit. $65 a pop. Looks like you need two to be fully covered. Is it worth it given the Outer Banks last summer? http://www.sharkbanz.com/home
One of the Betties used them until this week when she learned they attract sharks, protect the wearer but put other surfers in the area at higher risk.

I do a ton of saltwater fishing and there are plenty of days when a lure like a rattle trap repells fish. They react exactly like those sharks, they just want no part of it. Maybe its the rattle, the color or size not really sure other than they swim right at it until the last second and turn off. Then there are days that the same lure, same color and size drives them nuts. Maybe they get so annoyed they hit it out of fustration but for whatever reason it kills them on those days. My worry would be to be wearing that thing on the day the sharks have had enough. Like a dog on an electric fence, a squirrel or a cat that is out of bounds when the dog gets fed up a little shock is not gonna stop it. And dogs arent even chasing the squirrel out of hunger.
Apropos of perhaps nothing but seems kinda cool. http://www.thelocal.at/20160309/nazi-era-building-filled-with-sharks-in-vienna "Austrian city planners unable to knock down the huge concrete flak towers built by the Nazis have solved the problem with one of them, by filling it with hammerhead sharks. "
All kidding aside, for a moment, it seems that we all realize that what the human virus understands about our fellow species in the oceans is a travesty. Having said that, fundamental science has understood for eons that all creatures, including the human virus, function via varying forms of electrical fields. Neutrons, electrons.....you might have flunked out because of basic science but the facts remain. Sharks, and other critters such as rays & sturgeon, have electroreceptors. AKA Ampullae of Lorenzini. Basically, special sensing organs that other species don't have. These organs help the fish sense electrical fields in their environment, over vast areas of ocean. There's a symmetry to these organs but they do vary from species to species, and sub-species, of fish. If the sensitivity of the shark's magnetic field can be exploited to disrupt attacks.....there seems to be real potential with this technology. The law of electromagnetic induction (Faraday's law of induction) states that induced electromotive force (EMF) is proportional to the rate of change of the magnetic flux through a coil (an electric current can also be produced within a conductor when the conductor is moved through a magnetic field). This occurs because the force generated by the magnetic lines is applying a force on the free electrons in the conductor, causing the electrons to move. wtf...? Essentially, a magnetic field interacts with an electric circuit to produce a force. It's how you get many types of electric motors & such. How does this mean anything regarding sharks & your rubber-clad arse? When a shark swims through the Earth's magnetic field, electromagnetic induction – phenomena which generates an electric field as charged particles move through a magnetic field – creates an electric field around the shark. Minute differences in the Earth's magnetic field at different locations result in minute differences in the induced electric field which may be detected by the shark's sensitive electroreceptors, especially as the head region moves back and forth during swimming. Your different electrical field output disrupts the larger field. The shark is seeking electrical field disruptions. Because disruptions in the electrical field indicate prey. Disruptions in the electrical field help it hunt. Shake that electrical field up a bit when the shark thinks it has located an electrical field disruption & the man in the grey suit becomes discombobulated. Sometimes. Maybe. Maybe not. This approach is less than 20 years old. It's still got a ways to go after being accidentally discovered in 2004 by researcher Eric Stroud accidentally dropping a magnet onto a rubber mat near a captive tank at the Oak Ridge Shark Laboratory. He noticed that juvenile nurse sharks near the tank wall swam away from the magnet. Interesting & intriguing.
Well folks... There you have it! I wouldn't trust anything like this- sharks are still wild beasts and will do what they want, when they want. The best way to stop sharks is to eliminate them (sorry sharkhunter) by installing shark nets off the coast to keep them from our local beaches- thankfully we can all enjoy the beach at BELMAR this year since they have already installed shark nets It's kind of like wearing deet- you'll still get stung unless you stay inside or wear long sleeves
Still, nothing is more effective than, "Batman Brand" shark repellant. Works so well, its always sold out whenever I go to the store.
when we visited the millbrook vineyard in hudson valley a few weeks ago, we caught one of the workers answering questions to a group of people. aside from typical topography and ventilation/irrigation systems and ideas, one question was how do you deal with animal and bird raids on the grapes. he said that the main culprit were birds, deer not being all that interested, but for birds - they installed high posts around the perimeter of the vineyard and installed high output speakers on those. they would then play recording of birds fighting in nature, birds dying, and just general avian chaos at high volume. he said that has the problem solved. this reminded me of the shark repellent that uses the chemical sharks secret as the die, sending out a... chemical distress/alert signal into the water, which is picked up and immediately recognized by all sharks in a few mile radius. interestingly enough, i think nat geo has a special on it annually during shark week in summer. they say the bigger the shark- the more potent the chemical. which they then somehow..cultivate and package into cans under pressure so you can then crack it open and release the chems into the water when need be. as for the magnetic fields - i think that to a certain degree of perceptibility - every living organism has a "field" around them, which carries information back and forth. maybe electro-magnetism is a step forward to discovering that field, but perhaps the field itself carries a message. effectively - it's one thing to hear a voice, it's another to understand the words. which brings me to a slightly metaphysical idea where from early ages of human kind there are various beliefs in ..well... charging those bio fields through various forms of ..i dont want to say meditation.. but it's a fairly broad term, so might work here.. be it through states of relaxation, chants, formation of certain hand gestures, and using other "keys" to unlock these abilities to ...enter and if not modify then at least perceive the bio-magnetic-whatever you wanna call it fields around you. this is the way, i think its possible to see, how people came to believe in the power of prayer, and or meditative stimuli. then of course all of that got f-ed up by pop culture and money. either way, im rambling... if you are gonna take away anything from this - take away this: carry positive emotions about you - and at the very least you'll have a bit more peace than a person next to you. believe it or not, it all accumulates and perhaps charges that bio field around you. and maybe next time you're out in the water and a grey suit passes you by - she too will look at you from below, and think to herself - that one's good. will wink at you, and go on to brazil to bite medina. fck'm
hmmmmm....sounds like "free association" of unrelated ideas. What about....halos?.......auras??........astral bodies?...... It all sounds so....so.....so.....catholic? hahahahaha!!
I agree. Their entire line of oceanic repellant bat sprays is awesome. While it is sometimes hard to find, it seems that GaffCo LLC always has a good inventory in stock. .
Youre spot on yankee..except for timeline.. 1960-70's..modern tests... There has been speculation.. That the germans stumbled onto This...during ww2...magnetic mines.. However inregards ...to ****banz.. Those cracks alliw the salt water to come in contact With their stronthium bromide magnets...reaction results into bromic acid v
Sorry yank....in the middle of a big Filipino bday party..yesterday Weird phone spell check.. Anyway.. If you Google "shark deterent magnets"... It should bring up stroud site and other references... Like 1960-70 scientists trying to magnetize .create magnetic hooks..deterents To keep sharks from taking fisherman's catch... I believe a lot were in the carib.area.. When I get to the college this morning.. I'll jump on the computer...get specifics.. I can't remember any jauques Cousteau. .references.. As for the German reference.... When stroud was interviewed in England He was taken to task by these old brits Who I can only imagine... We're like that character..Robin Williams Imitated ..those old home front security Vets in ww2...capturing Rudolph hess.. "Get out of that fokker..you ****er!" Stating that the jerries..has Found this out developing submerged magnetic mines.. It's all cool stuff...and a lot of research is going on I have a neighbor...working on it now...UNF..and USF Marine biology depts..etc... As for 100% fool proof...I dunno.. What's that line from jurassic park.. "Life Finds a way".. Sharks have been around a long time.. Adapting..who knows.. But if a Device... can deter...cause a shark to feel a shock.. And thus alert you to his presence...thwarting An ambush...and buy you time to flee.. To safety...I dunno...that would be worth it... Otherwise someone gets bit...Iike the lady in florida Who went to the ER..with the shark still Attached to her arm... Then everyone flips out... Cause for culls..etc..
Well said senor ^ Should be interesting for you to hear first-hand what your neighbor's funded research comes up with in your years ahead.
