Shoe laces suck but they might buy you some time. Direct pressure ain't gonna help if you still gotta swim to shore because everyone bailed or not.

I've been very far from land on a surfboard by myself, most of you can relate to that feeling

At that point I would use my leash, it's thick enough to wrap and twist if needed!

Shoelaces are an excellent weapon on a bus or an airplane as no one knows they can be used as a weapon. They also work as a leash tie in a pinch. As do boardshort ties.

Once my wife and I were kayaking in the ocean (she had a waveski, I had an ocean kayak) and a bullshark came towards her, I was following. I ran up on himand scared him off as a 2 foot swell hit me broadside and flipped me. She still gives me grief for being a would be hero and a kook. But most sharks get startled quick by human intervention, even if they are in attack mode.

If it was an SUPer, I'd catch a wave in, then get my phone and record it, then call 911.

If you use a leash, and it is a better tourniquet, you could lose your board.

And shoe laces are a devastating weapon, I could take out a black belt who would beat me 100 times out of 100 times with the right pair of laces.

That's why i like FCS2 you can pop them out and use them as a weapon. ( Dont make me go pop a fin; on you ) for self defense only of course

Fitting topic for what just apparently happened to one of my best friend's.

He works really late hours and has a bad habit of surfing well into the evening sometimes. I do this also at times, especially in the Winter when I'm pressed for time and it gets dark early. He's famous for this. He'll start a session at 5:00 PM on a December night and surf until 9:00, after it's been dark for 4 hours already. Even tonight he surfed until 10:30 or something. So tonight he's surfing at Steamer Lane or somewhere in Santa Cruz, well into the evening and something came into contact with his bort and he saw it come out of the water a little bit. Since it was too dark to really get a good look, he couldn't confirm exactly what it was, but he thinks it was a shark. I guess it went away and he still continued to surf for the next half hour or 40 minutes. He said it might have even been an hour.

He called me up a little while ago to tell me. I'm usually not awake at these hours on non work days. I would have creeped out this happened to me at night. I probably would have sh!t myself and been scared to paddle back to shore in the dark haha.

From that article " A surf leash was used as a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding."

^that bite in Cali sounded pretty vicious from the ppl interviewed. I went out on DP this morning at Folly. We had winds storm thru last nite with some heavy rains, cleaned up a good bit. Lot of tradewinds, but provided some acute angles. Took out the LB tho i should've taken sumtin smaller despite the mush. had several rides before rollin into work. when i caught the last one, three unexpected waves came at me. the first one hurled my board at me, apparently it was right after i landed, then about did the same on the 2nd. then just kicked my @ss on the way out. must've been something i did...shorter board would've been best

google ads work by an alogorhythm whatever words/themes are written on a page is tagged with profiles names etc so yea the same would work for anyone if you continue to repeat certain terms with certain names

and it also goes by what you search on your own device so if your searching how to swim or become a better swimmer then you will see those ads...working on a new stroke or just learning val??
