Hey guys. I was looking around in my local shop here and found a used coil for a good price. I think it's a coil qualifier but not sure. I've always wanted to try one since you degenerates have always raved about them. Here's some pics. Dims are 5'10", 20.5 wide, 2 5/8" thick. I am 6"2 180lbs and a little more with all the winter gear on. Really want to pull the trigger on it for $240 that's a steal, but would like opinions/ reviews if you have owned and or surfed one.

There is a decent size ding on the rail that has been fixed decently but I've got a shaper friend who can fix boards up well.

    What do the swellies think?

Well, it's hard to tell from but the pics, but I don't think it's a qualifier, could be a couple different models or maybe a one off, but that doesn't matter. What matters is how it rides. I'm waiting on my 2nd custom from Mike as we speak so I'm obviously bias. In short, my Coil is the best board I own. Fast, durable, light as hell but handles windy conditions fine, not anything like you would think with lighter EPS / Epoxy boards, they defy the stereo types.

I would contact Mike and ask him if he thinks that board would suit you right based on the volume and shape compared to your size and ability. It's like a shoe, it's gotta fit or you won't be comfortable on it and it will let you down. This is my concern with buying off the rack rather than getting it custom. At that price it's a steal for sure.

Yea I know that's a freakin steal for that. It's volume was 1.15ft cubed.

That's the same volume as the M80 I'm getting, I'm 5'9" and 185 right now so I'm sure you're safe at that volume.

Sweet. It's a rounded pin tail so I think it would do well in bigger surf. Just wonder how it would handle in stuff around waist to chest high surf. The tail is pulled in but it's not as narrow as it looks. I bet it would be a great barrel riding board

Dammit haha. I really don't have the cash right this moment but I just might snag this thing in the next couple days. Thanks for the input DP. I was just down there in Florida last weekend. Got some fun ones at new Smyrna and at cocoa beach pier. Really loved the warm water haha

Probably a round tail M80. Just sold a like new one for $400. Volume was 1.12. Probably going to go back to a diamond tail M80, at 1.15. In short, yes, you should buy it.

What is the difference between an m80 and an equalizer?

No! Buy a boogie board and two hand planes. You will surf on all fours, kneeling on the sponge that's duct taped to your lower legs, while steering from the front with the hand planes. F*cking do it.

at $240 this is a no brainer. Buy it, surf it, sell it if you don't like it.

Yeah, those are nice and wear well. Some don't like the stringerless bounciness they possess but some do. The thick skin/soft core stringerless EPS boards will do that, a lot like those surftech PVC sheet foam boards. But if it fits your style the get up on it, never know 'til you go. No doubt you can run her around the track a few times and sell it if it doesn't fit and not get hurt at that price.

True that. Garbanzo, think I'm gonna pick it up today after work and get it prepped for the swell coming from this big storm coming through. At least I'll have some decent sized waves to give it a good test through this weekend/next

Pulled the trigger on it. Turns out when I sanded that putty repair it was fully watertight and actually done really well. So basically scored a barely used coil for 240. Fortunate to have some legit waves to break it in this weekend. Ride report will come in around Monday or Tuesday. STOKED!
