I had an A/C shoulder spread in high school during football season. I was out for at least a month and a half to two months. I recently just got over a shoulder impingement from a snowboarding wipeout. The advice about rest is well worth it. Give yourself time, at least a few weeks of rest, then small exercises (YouTube will be your best friend for those) and just take it slow. Your shoulders are paramount in surfing. Take your time or suffer consequences. Also, eat well. Supplementing yourself with proper nutrition will aid in recovery. Good luck!
Physical therapy and rest for your shoulder and light weight mobility. Have the same injury that your going through. I didn't surf for 3 months but did all the things I just said and I was back to surfing in no time. Going on my third trip this summer since my incident and shoulder feels fine
Sorry to hear about this as well. Hopefully you will get the A-team medical help and PT, and with patient and diligent adherence to the protocol, you may come out better than before the injury. It sounds like from the testimony from others the positive outcome is likely. Best wishes.
Co-signed on this. Rehab and take it slow. Forever think of it as a rusty hinge. You need to keep it moving to avoid rust build up... Be careful with any pain scripts that aren't pot. It won't be the same but it will be totally useful.
got a whole bottle of percs but didnt take one. Im saving them for PJB since i feel bad for not sharing my xanax.
A few years back i was up in Williamsburg at freedom park riding by myself (without a helmet). I had been there two times before so still didn't really know the trails all that well. Warmed up to a couple step downs (wider ones) and got to this on called "long and skinny" (they name all their features.. is this normal?) Long story short... i hesitated. Wasn't sure how big the drop was and thought i would slow roll it. Didn't have enough speed coming off the end and went over the handle bars. smacked the side of my head on some hard packed Virginia clay and landed directly on my right shoulder. I manage to drag my bike out of the way of the trail and post up next to a tree to gain some composure. Still somewhat out of it two folks ride through and ask if I'm alright. Of course I say "yeah I'm good, thanks!" Even though I've got no idea whether I am or not... Finally catch my breath. Shoulder feels like a car is parked on it. And I'm about 2.5 miles into the trail. Didn't really have any good options at that time so I hopped on my bike, heavily favoring the left side, and headed down the trail. Luckily the trail doubled back a bit and only had to ride about a mile or so to get back to my truck. I get my bike in the back of my jeep (which sucked) and hit the road back for Norfolk. This is typically about a 45-50 minute drive. Well on this here day, they had every fvcking tunnel in Hampton Roads shut down. I sat in traffic for 6 hours before making it back to my apartment. Luckily I was living within walking distance to the hospital. So i got home, rolled a spliff that i could pack the tip of with my thumb, and headed over to the hospital. This is where things got very interesting. High out of my mind from facing that spliff I walk into the hospital and and up to the check in counter. There was one fellow ahead of me who looked like he was having a worse day than I was. I could see blood on he clothes. The dude turns around and i realize that its an old neighbor of mine who had been jumped on 42nd st. by a group of wanna be thugs. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. We both get through the check in process and we sit down and he tells me the whole story. He was getting pretty animated and the cop that came in with him told him to calm down because he was scaring other patients. Maybe it was the weed? After all of that i finally get back to see the doctor. Dude does a sonogram of my shoulder and sees all ligaments are still attached but informed me that I had separated my shoulder. The injury reminded me of a broken collar bone actually. Kept my hand and arm in the position it would be in as if i had a sling on. The healing process was definitely slow. You really do have to let it do its thing. At leas for me, i would say it took about 6 weeks to feel 100% most of the time. There were still certain motions that would catch me off guard and remind me of the injury. Like opening the refrigerator door... Hope you heal up quick bud.
Sorry to hear that pump. Depends on the injury. Mine's never been the same. Strength wise it's fine, it's my rotator cuff that's still screwed up. It's pretty much ok, but the one thing that bothers it most is paddling. Whoopee. As long as you didn't screw that up though just do what the SI med staff said, take it slow, do the rehab, don't rush it, and then try to keep it strong. Good luck.
get well quick, pump! I separated my shoulder in a mosh pit at a Black Flag show in the early '80's. Sat against the back wall and drank beer until after the show. Could not drive, not so much because of the beer but lack of power steering... I walked around, holding my shoulder in place and swabbing it with DMSO... Anybody Remember that ish? No Dr. No money, No insurance... Hurt for six weeks. It's been over thirty years... I guess it's ok now!
