Some of youse guys are bordering on treason here. Stay strong! We never leave! They have to kick us out!
Some helpful sites (I think anyway) http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov http://marine.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=ANZ450#.WXKvQzUpDML (change to your local break) http://www.nhc.noaa.gov
The only reason I would pay for Surfline is for the cams Specially now that the BELMAR cam has been on the Frits - anyone else notice the Belmar cam not working consistently since like May??
Triangulation is where it is at. If two out of the three sites are predicting something I start to pay attention. If all three are lining up the forecast almost always holds.
https://earth.nullschool.net . if you like forecast animation for your local spot . This sites pretty interesting . zoom in find your spot . Then go down to the word earth at the bottom of the page and click on it . You can change the animation to wind , ocean , etc . Move the animation forward in time and see how a front , storm , ts , hurricane move up the coast . Can see when the wind will go off shore . Local wind swell directions . Its pretty interesting . But nothing beat SI for the east coast forecast .
SI has been so back and forth these past two weeks, even down to the day of. What gives? And the buoys have been showing this long period, but I'm just not seeing it. Sour and wave deprived, Kanman
I actually just gave a long hard look at renewing my surfline membership for all of the reasons listed above. the forecast is relatively worthless long range. I do think it's worth it for the cams if there are some where you surf (I have five for vb, plus all the cams for the outer banks). It's nice to be able to see what's going on real time. That was the only reason I renewed my membership. 5 bucks a month is worth no ads to me.
Has anyone taken a look at Surfline beta? Just started playing with it today but looks like the best interface I have seen. https://new.surfline.com/surf-report/8th-st-/5842041f4e65fad6a770886d/forecast
fnmoc.navy.mil is very accurate. I figure if the naval fleet uses it I can trust it. Before that was an old fashioned weather radio.
