Anyone ever experiment with assymetrical toe-in on the side fins? I picked up a used board that was a custom shape for someone else and noticed the side fins are not running the same angle off the stringer. One is a steeper angle than the other. Is there a standard tolerance on something like this and/or could it have been intentional to give different effects when going frontside vs. backside?
One of the easiest ways to build an "asym" is to use different fins, or different fin placement/toe angle. And there are good reasons to do that. But whether it was intentional or unintentional on your board is a question only the installer really knows! Because you have more leverage on your toe side, and your turns tend to have a tighter radius frontside, a greater toe angle on your toe side, some say, makes your turns more efficient, having less drag and carrying more speed through the turn. This may or may not work for you, but that's the theory. But if the greater toe in is on your heel side, according to the theory, you'll be fighting it going either way. However, unless it's off by a lot (1/8 or more) you might not even notice it. If it's only 1/16 off, don't worry about it. It's a used board...
