The migrating ospreys return here (VB) annually around St. Patrick's Day and stay until mid-September or so. First the male arrives, then the female. I believe they mate for life. The male starts working on the old nest before the female arrives. Lots of sticks accumulate on the ground below their nests as they rebuild it. It's great watch them snag a fish out of the water, fly off with it, and feed their young. For the past couple winters I've seen a few that apparently overwinter here. Be careful walking near their nests. They can shoot a quite stream of white liquid birdsh*t a considerable ways. I've personally witnessed such an event. Had I started my walk from the office to the Subway for lunch a minute earlier I would've been nailed. Certainly don't park under/near a nest. Then there's all the yellow pollen all over everything this time of year. Some cars start to look like they been finger painted with mustard. Sometime in April begins the daily Claritin (or the cheaper store brand) pill until early June.
