If that were the "moral of the story/joke". I didn't think it needed a disclaimer so that flawed theology wouldn't develop. However, humans are prone to develop many ill-conceived/flawed notions of God, often to facilitate or fulfill their human agendas.

True, very valid point. We did not come from nothing, we (humans) are certainly the design of something greater than us. Everything in this world is the creation of something greater than itself. That's how the world works. You cannot be greater than that of what created you. Not possible. And it is not possible to create ones self either. Can't get something from nothing.

It is no accident (this world), it was not a random event, it is without a doubt an intelligent design. The order of everything is too perfect to ignore. The ocean is a prime example of this, which is why I feel closest to my creator when i'm in the water among it's many creations. Surfing is my "church", not in the religious sense, but in the spiritual sense. I don't believe that there is some guy waiting in the clouds for us, but I do believe there is a creator.

Yeah, but that's beautiful. All the good threads start as something else.

You guys could at least throw a bad word or two aboot the moderators.

Brewengineer !! Man, any recent house pictures. I do love quaint South Carolina....the parts without trailers. I'm going to go to Charleston some day.

And...aboot "the story of the old guy with the beard who is all powerful and knowing......"

Well, the story stuck, didn't it? Why is that? Can you imagine all the half-crocked stories that didn't last.

Well, proof, I can't offer, but I don't act like I am an absolute authority of life, death and the meaning of life.

So-Crates believed. And this life does kind of gel with one of his thoughts - in order to understand something we need to know the opposite.

So, this life would kind of account as that "opposite," as opposed to an after-death paradise. We all aren't as happy on planet earth, as a , say, a MIS or a NJ Shredmachine. They do have it quite good here.

And come on.....what is "Nothing?" Something so beyond our comprehension must exist.

But who created God? Where'd He come from? And was there ever "Nothing." Can "Nothing" even, or have ever, existed? What is "nothing?"

    I don't know.....but I sure admire y'all who have it all figured out. I sure don't.

Koki, my God, I'd never hurt you.

Oh, just to clarify as someone mentioned knife fighting.

Do I look like Jim Stark? I don't knife fight.

I had(have) no intentions of meeting Bub in Pleasantville - the Versailles and The Hague of South Jersey - to pug. I have never wanted to meet anyone on here to engage in pugging.

Just talk, that's all. "He ain't a soc. He's just a guy that wanted to talk. That's all"(Ponyboy Curtis). Dallas Winston is the coolest dude, like, ever.

Hi, Baddy, how's the area treating you today? Brisk out, huh? Hey, you ever have Carluccio's? I hear it's da bomb pie.

Thump, thump, thump!! Please...intelligent design?? Even that very proposal lacks intelligence.
But, like I stated before, you guys want to believe in a "creator"...be my guest. So do the Islamic terrorists. Great company!!

Bill didn't try to fight me or anything like that.

Here's what I don't get...the fact that species have evolved does not have to rule out the existence of a minded force driving the creation/expansion/develpoment/ whatever of the universe. Those that so emphatically state that it's impossible are just as pompous to me as religious zealots ignoring the facts of the fossil record.

    Association fallacy
An association fallacy is an inductive informal fallacy of the type hasty generalization or red herring which asserts that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another, merely by an irrelevant association. The two types are sometimes referred to as guilt by association and honor by association. Association fallacies are a special case of red herring, and can be based on an appeal to emotion

Indeed it does. You put DPSup (& others) in the company of Islamic Terrorists.

Should we assume you hide from the fuzz on toll booth roofs because you surf?

They ARE in the company of Islamic Terrorists in the belief of a creator. No difference.

Hi Seldom, sorry I never fought you. Some day.

They say never discuss religion or politics.....

Actually, I could care less what anyone believes or doesn't believe. I find the people who authoritatively dismiss a higher power amusing.

Now these dudes are really arrogant and pompous. Probably a bit narcissitic. How could anyone claim they "know" how the universe came to be or what happens after death?

Politics on the other hand...I care. Oh, I really care. But I'm getting better with that. I can honestly say that I don't want to exterminate republicans anymore. That took me two years to get like that. I now realize they have a right to live too.

I do like Pump, though he is an ornery conservative...

Or maybe he's is what they are supposed to be....

Oh dude, Amish Mafia is back on with their new and final season. Don't miss a single episode.

Man, we should have a SI gathering in Lancaster, PA. Neutral territory, and that way we wouldn't see how bad everybody actually surfs on here. I'm sure many won't meet at our imagined reunions because they can't do the dump floaters.

I been outside working since 8 this morning and will be out side off and on until 10 tonight. I've been working outdoors off and on for 30 years and this is the single coldest f@cking day I can remember. Tomorrow's going to be worse. I can't even comprehend looking at the Marias cam or Rincon Surf Report right now. If I did, you would see a grown man cry..
What if God was one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Did you ever think of that? Maybe he's just some stranger on the bus, trying to make his way home.
Native Americans called it the 'Great Mystery'. They couldn't explain it, so they didn't even bother debating it or killing each other over it. Instead, they celebrated the things that effected their daily lives. Like the sun, or their corn harvest.

Oh and all of this science stuff......

You guys BELIEVE that stuff too.

Yeah ok some scientist tells me that this tree is 1000 years old.

    I don't KNOW that.

I would either BELIEVE or NOT BELIEVE.

When scientists tell lay people stuff, the lay people BELIEVE.

Sure they say they have proof, but how do I know? We take them at their words, right?

Scientists could be liars. "Hey, lets tell them all we discovered a new planet and that Big Foot is real !!"

Big Foot is real and he lives in Vermont. He has a "girlfriend" named, Danielle. Boogitym, that was for you.

Wourd, not many dumps would be floated. I'd still be down for Lancaster...if we go in May/June we could forage for Ps Ovoideocystidiata. Look at the blueing in those Bad Larrys!

Riley, I don't know if I can give up my dreams of scalps as you have your dreams of republicans, but i can say I will try.

I have much love for pumpy too.
