I take offense to all the anti cop spite in this tread. I am a cop. I know there are officers that are not very good people, but its like that in all professions. You cant judge the many by the few.
McLovin!!!!! Dude totally knows the cops, pulling this sh1t as a favor and getting on film. He's gonna get so much ass from that vid in his school it's ridiculous, ok. I'm calling it.
"your move sancho" HAHHAHA I sure do miss that version of you trev. Ya know, third person trev aka Ol' trev.
No, it's not like all professions. You have the power to enforce the law and to interpret events and make decisions about those events that can change or disrupt or even end a person's life. So azzholes in your line of work have much worse consequences for those they encounter than say that azzhole in accounting at JP Morgan. And, as some have stated on here, some people becomes cops because of the power they hold over the populace. Certain individuals that got the sh1t kicked out of themselves in school or those that craved acceptance into certain social circles and were rejected. They did not join to serve and protect but to one up everyone.
As a person viewing strictly the video, no i think that was asinine. However, as a police officer, I can see doing that depending on what the totality of the circumstances dictate, if the kid was going to run, and It was departmental policy to make sure to cite the kid, I would do what i could to make sure i could cite the kid, even if that includes tackling or using an electrical impulse device on him. (which isn't legal to do in NC anymore unless the person constitutes an immediate threat to someone or something. more bullsh!t from bureaucrats IMO) But if it was not some kind of policy to make sure to get the kids info at minimum, i think they should have just told the kid to beat it a few times. And if he didn't after that, maybe going hands on would be good. I dont have enough information to fully give an opinion on the video like, good stuff or bad stuff. Department policy damns most officers. If they follow it, its not always the right thing to do, if they don't follow it, they can be fired and arrested. Its a really sh!tty situation man. Politically correct people have ruined being a police officer as a career choice. At my department, the average time on the road, (like longevity of working the road as a patrol officer) is only two years. That is sad, people get fired for not doing something to policy almost weekly, even if policy is wrong. Sucks. and people quit because it isn't an easy job and you get F'd no matter what you do.
There was another death during an incident in Georgia where a white man who was having a hallucination due to synthetic weed was tasered numerous times by police until he expired. EXPIRED. I'm sure there will be no riots or mass demonstrations about it.
It is exactly like that in every profession. Find me a job that an asshole doesn't work in and I will immediately quit and get a job doing that. If being a police officer was the best paying job in the world, more candidates would apply for positions and departments could be more selective and less assholes wouldn't be cops. But life isn't like that and departments can't afford to be selective like that. No one wants to be a cop so they have to hire the people that apply. And yes some people do become cops to have power over someone, fair enough. But not a majority of people in the line of work. And once again, you can't judge the many by the few.
Extremely unfortunate circumstances for all involved in that case. But i would look into it more and read up on it some. It may not always be what the first looks shows. IF he was black though, there would already be people being hanged.
BTW, I'm not trying to be sh1tty with you personally. I think being a cop or being a teacher are probably the most thankless jobs out there. Like you said, the good ones get buried under the bullsh1t
Nah man i understand, everyone has a different view on police officers, I don't like a lot of cops, there are some true assholes so I do know where you and everyone else are coming from. I don't take anything personal from ya, just want people to know the other side too. Yeah it really is a thankless profession, I started into law enforcement because I was never an asshole, I always have been good and tried to be helpful in any situation i could. I always have just wanted to help people and this profession was a good way for me to help people who really need it.
If you really want to help people , don't allow your coworkers to get away with this type of crap. I'm sure the pressure to keep quiet is strong due to job security and not wanting to be labeled. Have the courage to be different, to not accept this behavior.
Job security is something like being a journalist who printed something wrong, after being fired for making a mistake, no one will ever hire the journalist who was fired. Being a police officer is the same way, once you get fired, your career is done. You lose your certification you worked hard to get and everything in law enforcement is now closed to you.
I browse this forum alot, however, I rarely post, but this has to stop... I AM A POLICE OFFICER and YES, the amount of force used in that video appears to be excessive for the situation shown, however, that is only 30 seconds of the altercation that according to the article, stemmed from prior incidents. Are there bad cops? Yes, absolutely. But the majority are awesome people that live normal lives just like you and I. There are bad people in all professions...doctors, politicians, teachers, etc... and they are supposed to protect us also, am I wrong? The media hates police. They know there ratings thrive on it, and unfortunately from what I have read on this thread, most of you feed into it. Are the two police officers in the video bad people? I have no clue, I do not know them. Everyone makes mistakes, that doesn't necessarily mean you are a bad person. I grew up surfing, skating and snowboarding. I was heavy into the scene and still am. I got in a decent amount of trouble with the law. I was arrested numerous times, one of them being a criminal charge. But I learned my lesson by the time I graduated High School. I was by no means a loser who got beat up. I had tons of friends, got a decent amount of puss, and was a pretty good athlete. Just remeber this....I am the guy who responds to perform CPR or administer Narcan to your mom/dad/brother/sister. I am the guy who responds to a motor vehicle accident and sees the drivers brains hanging out or worse, a dead child in the back seat. I am the guy going to a domestic violence incident not knowing if I am being ambushed. I am the guy that has to restrain John Doe who is 6'6 240 lbs. and all he wants to do is hurt someone because his girlfriend cheated on him. I am the guy who has to talk a 15 year old out of suicide. I am the one who has to search someone and constantly worry about getting stuck with a needle containing Hep C or AIDS. I have to go knock on Jane Doe's door at 4am and inform her that her 18 year old son was walking home and was struck by a drunk driver and died. I have to be ready for these situations on a daily basis everday and will have to do so for the next twenty years. Talk about stress? I have missed and will miss so many precious moments with my little girl. I wont be there on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, Halloween. Most of you will be there around the dinner table drinking a glass of wine, laughing and enjoying the company of your family. Not me, I will be working so you can have that luxury. I can go on and on....If some of you have had one or more negative experiences with a police officer, then I will apologize on their behalf. I am not complaining. I chose the profession. I am just trying to hopefully broaden some of your perspectives. And thankfully when I am not working, I am one of lucky ones that can separate myself from the job and focus on my family and what I love to do, which is SURF!
99% of the time, the department's won't hire someone who has been fire before. I have admitted there are bad eggs. But I will not ruin my career because someone else wants to ruin theirs. Call it whatever you want, it's just smart on my part to ensure my bills are paid every month doing a job I can go to sleep happy with every day. And a lot of people feel that way too. And I'm not complaining at all about my career choice. I'm happy with it, i chose it because that's what i wanted to do. People become cops because they want to help people a lot of the time. Other than that, I'm not really sure, I've heard people say they thought it would be cool or fun to do. And you saying cops don't have life skills, i would like to see what you consider life skills. Beer bongs and clearing the bowl aren't getting you anywhere in life. You need to get off the pot because you ain't doing sh!t on it.
I went to school. Probably have more degrees than you stank. Took many history classes. I know exactly what following orders does. Maybe you shouldn't break the law and I wouldn't have to just "follow orders" and would be able to do more proactive police work. For the record. Every single officer In my department has been wearing body cameras for years. Most departments wear them if they can afford them. Cameras do nothing but good for everyone involved. Also, just don't break the freaking law where we have to arrest or hassle you. I don't give a rat's ass if you consume drugs or alcohol or whatever your vice is. But when it starts to put someone else in danger because you can't control yourself in public. Such as driving while drunk/high/buzzed whatever. There is no excuse for that. Put your own life in danger, fine. But the minute I have to pull a dead baby out of a car because some asshat was driving high after smoking a bowl and ran a red light, heads will roll. Smoke your weed, snort your pills. But do it in your own home. Not the park, not Walmart, not the dollar store, not driving down the road. thats when people get hassled. We could also turn this thread into a positive catalog showing the good that police do. There are over a million police interactions every day with less than .1% of them being bad. For ever police brutality video you find, i can find a hundred thousand cases where good was done by an officer. Don't be ignorant stank. There are bad people in the world. There will be bad people in every profession until there are no bad people in the world.
C'mon man, you can't deny that there has been an increase in brutality in the last 10 years, it's everywhere you look. Far too many. And if guys like you keep quiet it will continue.
It hasn't. It has actually gone down by almost half. It's media perpetuating the stereotype that all cops are bad. Look at the shootings by cops on TV. It doesn't matter to the media that the guy had a knife and he was charging the police officer. It matters to them that he was a church boy fifteen years ago and will sell ad space.
The courts, judges, lawyers and laws bother me much more than the cops. Seems like a stupid thing for the cops to have to waste their time on stupid crap like skateboarding.
