be safe you are correct - indeed - to be concerned about runoff at that exact beach. i have no personal experience with it but have heard more than one horror story thru the years.

The last time I surfed in front of that pipe during the rain I caught something that had it coming out both ends bloody non stop for 4 days, lost 20 lbs. That was 10 yrs ago and I didn't really have 20 lbs to spare then. I was 3rd world country bathing in the local standing water irrigation pond sick. My advice, don't let the tasty waves near the pipe bait you in when its raining!
In all seriousness that is one of the most polluted breaks in NJ. There are more beach closures there than any other spot in NJ. They blame the E. coli counts on waterfowl/geese poop from Wreck Pond, but I think there are other issues at play as well.
no other issues, you hit the nail on the head. Wreck pond actually snakes all the way back into wall township believe it or not. after heavy rains that pipe dumps all the overflow from Wreck and it's tributaries into the ocean. There is some nasty nasty stuff coming out of there.
IHLBS, did you end up going out yesterday? I was going to drive down to that pipe, but I checked a spot closer to my home and scored 2 hours of fun rides. But as I was paddling back out after a ride, I felt a pinch and then a burn on right leg. I wigged a bit and saw a quarter sized bite mark taken out of my brand new wetsuit. So mad.
