Well, I found a site with plenty of camp sites... Got three nights for only $71.. no too shabby...POCOMOKE RIVER STATE PARK...

40 min ride to the beach, though that should not be a prob, I'll be going in before the rush, plenty of time to find parking... which reminds me.. anyone know of a good place to park for free with public restrooms nearby?

Not my post, but giving it a bump ... Anyone ever camped ON the beach in Hatteras? I know someone mentioned Camp Frisco, but I mean actually on the beach. I'm guessing it's not exactly legal, but do you think there's anyone that would care this time of year??

It used to be legal in Pea Island Nat. Ref. in selected areas and depending on the time of the year. I haven't tried it in a while, but I would think you can camp anywhere there is 4x4 access--which is almost nonexistent now due to the protection of non-native birds and abject control of the entire shore by envirowoowoos looking to save the life of one little non-native bird at the expense of a large part of the OBX economy.

Short answer--if there is any area still open to camping you'd better hit it now before they find out about it and shut it down.

No camping on the beach but when there aren't beach driving restrictions [stupid birds] I believe you can fish at night. If you happen to fall asleep while fishing has a crime been committed? It will probably depend on your attitude if a ranger stops by wakes you up.
