I agree with Riley on Zep. That was surfin music in the 70s.

Don't truly understand what is or ain't punk. Thought I knew back in the 80s til a Navy bud punk aficianado started splainin how there's all these different flavors of punk. There's avante garde, there's this, that, the other. He just confused me (easily accomplished) and we reloaded the bong.

Like Seldom said, we likes what we likes, and it don't matter why.

    All good.

Oh people don't get me wrong, I respect all music made with actual instruments.

Well, besides country. But that's a given, right?

Ahh, I can see y'all blasting Generation X(is that punk?) getting amped to go SUP two-foot Satellite Beach.

alternative/punk bands are just woven into the skater/surfer life..the bands are cooler than most pop bands..if you choose your more than welcome to listen to pop and draw a pic of justin bieber on your surfboard...now thatll be rad:p

Let's do it man. I'll mount some speakers on the SUP. Bring your sponge, you can do step-offs from the SUP.

Yeah but surfing's demographics have changed.

Surfers aren't really "punk" or "alternative" anymore.

Now, I hope nobody is getting sore over this because they shouldn't.

But look at this place. We have southern republicans who aren't Christians.

We have a majority population here comprised of working middle-age males, complete with the wife, 2.5 kids, and the black picket fence.

That was for Surf'n nig wherever he may be. See, I was being all equality and sh!t by not saying, "white picket fence."

Wow, that was uncanny, just incredible. I really amaze myself sometimes.

Anyways we have this white collar middle-aged demographic and they all cling to their skateboards in the 1980's when they listened to GBH riding their launch ramp doing the boneless.

I don't know, it's just kind of interesting. I mean I'd imagine some of y'all listening to Barry Manilow as you read the stock section in todays Boston Globe.

But no, Black Flag.....Black Flag....Black Flag..

Hey was that Henry Rollins in Black Flag. I've never understood the career that guy has had post music. Don't listen to him. Listen to me. Pay me to speak to you. Thanks.

Is this like clinging to God and Guns?

Hey! I played pool with the members of GBH.

    Does GBH stand for:
    Great Britain Hardcore?
    Gross Bodily Harm?
    General Bodily Harm?
Is the GBH License Plate on the Malibu in Repo Man A Coincidence?
With All this Knowledge and name dropping why wasn't I drafted for a surf crew?

The Clash, while not a favorite of mine, were kind of pioneers. They seem almost pop today, but were quite original when they came out.
Same goes for Zep though. When they came out, they were edgy and original. My dad said his mom wasn't happy he listened to them and Pink Floyd all the time. Today, these bands seem more like pop, and everyone knows them.

    "White Riot"

White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own
White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own

Black people gotta lot a problems
But they don't mind throwing a brick
    White people go to school
Where they teach you how to be thick

    An' everybody's doing
    Just what they're told to
    An' nobody wants
    To go to jail!

White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own
White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own

All the power's in the hands
Of people rich enough to buy it
    While we walk the street
Too chicken to even try it

    Everybody's doing
    Just what they're told to
    Nobody wants
    To go to jail!

White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own
White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own

    Are you taking over
    or are you taking orders?
    Are you going backwards
    Or are you going forwards?

The Clash were homeless when they were "discovered." 1st 4 albums were great. Hell, Even Atom Tan and Go Straight to Hell off Combat Rock are solid songs.

    Saw them 2x.

agreed things have changed,,but normally or well in our early years surfers/skaters were up on the newest groundbreaking bands..not sure if the younger crowd is or not...i loved GBH and the subhumans..and if and when a hurricane swell comes and waves top over 7ft,,i hope im blaring them to get amped up some before heading out to face them rather than chilled out barry...
