What's with the "arigato" crap. If you want to be a jappa, it is no different than jester say "bro" to everyone. Believe me, blacks don't want white "bros", and japs, don't want white "arigatos".
Phuck 'em. I once was in NYC. A car pulls up to the side walk where I was standing with my boss, a Vietnam Vet. The window rolls down, and a car full of Japs ask, "Where is United Nations?". My boss looks in the car and replies,"You can't find United Nations??!!?? You didn't have any problem finding Pearl Harbor!!". Window rolls up and they hastily drive away. True story. I laughed for weeks.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. I have surfed the spot you mentioned, one pretty good session, one meh session, and one total crap but I was already there and it was windy everywhere. Agreed. Can reach there faster than anywhere else but find it and DE in general fickle to an even greater degree than OC or AI. Arigato!
Hai. That trip is brutal and quickly has hit 7+ a few times with beltway traffic. Wife's like "Aren't you stoked? You got to surf?" I mean, kinda. The effort that goes into it is exhausting. Yeah. I too get what I get once I'm there regardless of how the forecast plays out but give myself the best opportunity shooting for only stellar type conditions. OK. Thought that about traffic headed north. Japan most recently. I only do it because I don't know how to do anything else. Thanks for the feedback. Arigato!
Original question...1st, most surfers are nervous about this break in the WINTER by themselves, especially when it's big. Not because it's dangerous, but it's the fact you are alone, no one around, no hint of infrastructure, and feels like your on another planet compared to OC...help, well there isn't anyone around within miles...just you...paddle is generally much longer too, tho not always the case, and with the winter gear can be a tad tougher. 2nd, surfers are like pack animals...for whatever reason, everyone wants to surf in mobs. For me, winter alone is a welcomed time. Summer, well, it just doesn't happen, unless you wanna take the 4x4 or do some walking. Sounds like you are an amazing ripper with in and out barrels...surfers crack me up! And I would add, you are better off in NJ, it is a far more superior wave then anything in the Delmarva area.
Honestly AI is my favorite place to surf. Mainly because it's about a 7 minute drive from my house... People complain about the paddle out, say it's always mushy, it's sharky, etc. The paddle out can be brutal on big days. If it's mushy at AI, you're there on the wrong tide or the swell just isn't working. Yes, it's sharky... Winter Storm Riley brought a helluva good swell to AI. OC was dumpy and shallow but a few guys were scoring there; I decided to drive south to AI and it was firing! If you're willing to walk a few minutes up the beach from the car park you can find a peak to yourself. I try to surf with someone whenever I go because I've had a few sketchy encounters that made me wonder what would happen if I needed help and I was out there solo... All in all, don't worry about what other people are doing. SO many times I've come over the Verrazano bridge to see people leaving with boards in the car; assuming the surf sucks but I check it anyways to find out it's absolutely firing. I've passed guys leaving the dune crossing, board in hand, and they say, "It's only waist high and mushy today"... Yeh have no idea what you're talking about do you? ^ When the paddle out is 200 yards, it's much harder to determine how big it really is. If it looks like it's waist high from the beach, it's probably head high +. This happens all the time. I make the call for myself. Don't let the empty lineups and people leaving the car park influence your call. But yeah. Assateague totally sucks. You all should avoid this place
A Japanese couple had their first baby. The baby boy came out with blonde hair and blue eyes. The Doctor delivering the baby asked the newly Father what name is? The father said - SumDingWong.
Yeah, the daytrips are rough. There have been a couple of times I question why I do it, but I always do it again. Usually only question it from Jan-Mar, in a 4/3 or less it is always worth it.
I'm all about the Thai! I have said it before and i'll say it again, I am a lucky man having a Thai girlfriend!! Her mom loves showing me how to cook different Thai dishes.
Damn, I sometimes complain about 35 minutes. I have never worn anything thicker than a 4/3 round deez parts. 2 different days, 2 different experiences: Day 1, water temp 37, air temp 25, wind 25mph - out for about 45 minutes - COLD! Day 2, water temp 37, air temp 54, wind 7mph - out for about 3 hours - WARM! I was actually happy to duck dive on day 2 just to cool off.
