I am planning a short trip over spring break(Easter). Just looking to get away from the 5mm/boots/gloves/hood deal. I will be bringing my 3/2, but do i need boots or gloves that time of year anywhere south of LA,? Also, where is a cheap place to stay between La and SD? Any help would be appreciated.
So Cal Help By spring time, 3/2 should be good enough, highly doubt your going to need booties. just check the water temps out here before you cruise down. Sometimes you can trunk it in the spring time. Between LA and SD there are plenty of places to find for cheap, just google it. Easy search.
You don't need anything but a 3/2 in SD county, especially if you're used to winter on the east coast. Some kids around here will wear boots, possibly a hood during dusk but really the water is around the low 60s so a 3/2 by itself will suffice. As far as cheap accomodations, check the hostels. There's one here on Newport Ave in OB and there's another in MB. There's a bunch downtown but then you'd have to worry about finding transportation to the beaches... you can take the bus but it's easiest to get into one of the hostels which are walking distance to waves. Hope this helps
yeah at the hottest part of each day it's certainly warm enough to wear boardies... but bring a hot shirt 1-2mm to keep your body heat in. i normally go out for an hour or two with board shorts and a top around noon, but after 90-120 minutes your body temperature starts to drop drastically and it's time to get out. with a 3/2 you can go all day though without having to get out.
3 mil for sure. u r straight then but I would call the hostels first, cause im pretty sure the hostel in ob is international passport only. but hey man, check ur email too. I sent u a message about this. if u want to stay in between la and sd. stay in san clemente. great surf. trestles etc. smack dab in the middle. p.s. u don't need booties in jan or feb here so u certainly don't need them in spring.
