I was looking at the forecast for wb cb and ei and I noticed that all 3 places are forecasted to be in the head high range. The only hang up I can see is ei is a south facing beach. I understand that a swell can wrap into a beach but generally some size is lost. I just don't see how a south facing beach can catch just as much swell as an east facing in this case.
I have surfed there a few times at emerald isle and topsail. I looked at the motion of the waves and predicted movement and the arrows are pointing more east south east closer to the shore. I would guess whatever size it is saying subtract 2 ft or more. It is showing clean all threw the next 4 days and the whole ne swell. But it is also saying winds will be out of the ne. And that is a south east beach facing direction. I dont know. Im guessing it will be a sloppy mess. With a mean sideshore current and maybe a few moments of surfable condtions maybe.
We just made some changes with the Swellinfo model, so I"m going to keep an eye on this. Its possible we may need to make a tweak for EI. It definitely looks like swell is going to wrap in there, but perhaps not as much as it is saying right now.
yeah SI the swell definitely wrapped in but it never got over chest high (unless you're a grom). Also, you might want to check the wind too. I've noticed some greens when the wind goes side shore. I'm not complaining I'm just letting you know there are some things you might want to look at. I'm no jim cantore or anything, but I know enough to know that a 20kt ne wind isn't going to be semi-clean. Just givin ya a heads up EI faces more south (sse actually, but I call it south). Topsail does face se though. 2ft is a good starting average really, but it also depends on the swell period. The longer the period, the easier the swell can wrap into a beach
I like to think of the listed beaches as areas that have a defined curve and change the direction they face as they reach inlets, piers, underwater features, and jettys. For instance one part of CB, WB, OI, etc might be sideshore and another part more offshore with the same wind conditions. I've seen waves that I would call green in one spot and blue in another all on the same beach, also different spots will be differnt sizes even within a 1 mile distance. That being said, some conditions can make the entire beach light up so it's hard to say what counts as green conditions or blue or red. I guess it's all subjective.
