So sorry to feel like a kook, but why does NJ (for the most part) light up on a good south swell. You would think south jersey would get good but no, monmouth goes off. I understand it wraps around the jetties and makes long clean lines. Could use a nj swell direction lesson.Thanks
south jersey is "less exposed" compared to north jersey...also the swells lose power due to having to travel through a longer stretch of shallower water.
Just look at a map. Depends on the angle of the south swell, but as you can see, once you get North of DE into Jerz, you will see the angle of the coastline start aiming back down more drastically to the South East. A South East swell heading up the coast directly at a South East facing beach == perfect setup for that particular swell... There are a lot of factors, but the angle of the beach is mainly why that is. Its the same on both coasts.
The same thing happens to your neighbors to the south in Southern NC. Wrightsville and CB and those guys get really good setup on the SEs, cause they are a direct hit as the systems move up north. Its another story for NE swells the rest of the year, but they have a sweet setup in the fall
