Hey guys, happy new year. I got a speargun for christmas and figured id pole the crowd and see if any of you have any experience. Are there certain times of year you can go, permits to get, what do you go for etc. Fill me in dudes, I'm stoked to try it out!

just remember size restrictions count and fish look a lot bigger under water , and nothing pisses off rod fisherman more than a guy bagging under sized fish , especially if the fish aren't biting ... hence forth someone calls Fish and Wildlife and the warden tickets you for any shorts. can get expensive so make sure when you shoot that it's legal size . have fun !

Make sure you spearfish ONLY in shark infested waters. Tie speared bleeding fish to your waist somehow and continue on spearfishing.
    Have fun!!!!

Yes... visibility is the main challenge. All the other factors... fish variety, size, abundance, water temp... are all acceptable. It's the viz that's the challenge. If it's like... 6-8 feet its doable. The best way to bag fish with a speargun is around the rocks, or out over the rocks and clam beds via modified kayak or dory. Shark River Inlet is a popular spot.
