Local Shops I work at a local shop in Ocean City. So to try and say that you are going to slide by the system and not pay for a board is somewhat sh**tty. Boards are not super marked up at all, things like shipping costs, oil prices and manufacture prices are the reasons for board prices, Do not blame the shops. The reason you get "hooked" up at a shop doesnt mean that you are the best surfer in town, it means that you send all your business to this one store. Even if you are landlocked you can still have a relationship with a shop, you buy one or more boards from the same shop the people will remember. But as long as you keep acting like there is no reason for loyalty and no reason to have local shops then enjoy attempting to make friends in the water. I am not trying to put you down but a true hardcore surfer that only cares about surfing would see the point of why an online sponsorship is lame.
you make good points. it's understandable why board prices are what they are, and i'm sorry to put blame on the shops when there's no reasoning for it. i guess when i said "super marked up boards", i was more speaking in terms of comparison. with the deal ive got going on now, i can get new customs for around 250. its just hard to justify spending over 400 or 500 when i can save that money. prior to this deal, i have gotten all my new boards at a given shop, and ive even gotten used there as well. ive referred every person that has ever asked me about boards to this shop. ive shown the loyalty that i could, and on my latest board i was given a discount which was greatly appreciated. times are tough, and i fortunately found an opportunity to build a relationship with a shaper. if i didnt find out about this, i would most definitely be getting boards from the same shop i always have been. also, i say "sponsorship" because that's what it's referred to. i see it more as a good deal that i'm getting through someone that is becoming a friend. my main argument with surfingoc912 was the whole kook nonsense. i just couldnt see how someone could make a judgement based solely on where you live. and i suppsoe that everytime ive seen him post, it has sparked something inside of me to go ahead and argue against what he's saying. not the greatest reasoning, i know. on a side note, ive most likely surfed with many of you in the water, and ive never had a problem with talking to any of you and never has anyone had a problem with the way i am when we're out there. i enjoy being out there with you all
Are we really gonna go here again surf boi?? I call you a kook because your a "sponsored" surfer, living nowhere close to the beach. Something just doesn't make sense here....I think we've figured it out. By all means, I'm over it because as I've stated before, you're "sponsorship" I care nothing about. But if you really wanna stir the pot some more....keep going.
i was more trying to make amends for arguing with you in the first place rather than stirring the pot. i understand your side of it, and can reason with it.
Rob Kelly lived in pa until he was 15. Ben greaff lives in pa and he kills it. It's not about where you live, that's just dumb. Just cuz you live closer to the beach than surfer boi doesn't mean he can't be sponsored.
Actually just got a call from them saying a got sponsored.....but im not going to do it. I get 35% off their boards for being a level A sponsor and have to move my way up to get cheaper boards...but the real reason is that i only can use pure island surfboards, and well i love my boards now to much to not use them. Like everyone else said, its not a real sponsor, and i kinda feel like a poser for getting a sponsor the easy way, but like surferboi was saying it is 35% off, so y not? im going to stick to my Ezera and my Double for now though.
Good question. Loopd sponcers bodyboarders, but its kinda gay. I got some off there but i dont know i i can trust it. Its also easy to get sponcered on there. I get 40 percent off from 4 differnt things with out putting up competition results.
