They still won with their backup QB in their conference Championship. Came back from behind and everything.
The AAC isn't comparable to big boy football. UCF alum here and wouldn't want to see my school get crushed by Bama.
You aren't educating me on the difference between the AAC and the SEC football, i'm well aware. That said, it's not fair to say they would get crushed by Bama, because in reality 99% of teams in the Country would get crushed by Bama, so it's really no difference. Let's not forget that Utah CRUSHED Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl 31-17, so anything is possible. And let's not forget when Boise State whooped Oklahoma 42-35 in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Teams that go undefeated in their conference, AND win their conference championship, should get a chance.
Not saying they shouldn't be in over Oklahoma, just think they would get crushed withut Milton. This debate is exactly why they should be in!
I like UCF, but they need to add at least 2 heavy hitters to their schedule (and win) before they get a sniff of the championship. even Michigan or USC would be a step up in competition
Agreed, the problem is getting some of these teams to schedule them while they are in that smaller conference. There's not as much money in playing them and they run the risk of losing to a "lesser" team. Best thing they can do is try to move to a bigger conference.
They should try to schedule UF, FSU or Miami and develop a rivalry. That would add a big boy to the schedule and it would be a good game like the in state rivalries down here usually are.
USF did that and they ended up kicking the Noles butt one year 17-7. FSU is up 3-1 in the series, but if you can win one of those every now and then it gives your program legitimacy, plus lots of money!
Yeah, it's tough for an up-and-coming team to get a big dog to throw you a bone because it really is a lose/lose proposition for them, nobody wants to lose to Appalachian State. Teams like LSU and Bama would rather schedule dishrag ho's like UTEP and Bo Diddly Tech at the front and back of their schedules to pad their records and point differentials, and pay out a million buh each. So to play with the big boys, you gotta learn to play the schedule game as well
yeah I'm practically on another continent and I'd love to see that matchup. I think Miami is trying to get back to their glory days, so the possibility of losing to UCF is very real to them...which would deliver a big setback to their program. Boise State and Utah were in similar predicaments during the last decade
As a golden knight and Canes season ticket holder it would be a dream come true for me to see them play every year. Canes got a long way to go to get back to glory days. Richt needs to find a damn QB!
I know they're not power 5, but it's hard to go undefeated with injuries, bad officiating, bad luck, etc. I agree with Kyle, they should've got in over the Sooners. Doesn't UCF have the highest enrollment of any college in the country? Why aren't they in a power 5 like SEC or ACC?
A ton of that enrollment is international students. Blessing and a curse as a lot of the students don't care about football so it doesn't help recruiting. Blessing because it allowed me to try many of the world flavors in college!
