Barry is pretty spot on. But I guess for pros it is diffrent. Board breaks get a new one for free.

But still. That one board had a gigantic hole in it from him just hoping through a weak spot? Thats pretty darn weak

I'm sure the glassing schedules are pretty light for them, but pros boards are disposable as everyone is saying. I've ridding the CI teamlight and even those are incredible light with just the foot patch. Easy to crease and the foot weld I put into it was unbelievable after only a few surfs.

Also, Stretch's board was EPS from what I read on the 'erbb with his CFT construction i believe. Dane didn't like it...

However, you can have lightweight and not sacrifice strength and most of the builders who provided boards use/have tech that increases the strength and still provides light weight. Hayden, CI, JS, Stretch, etc.

I love the entire concept and compared to Julian...Dane was a lot more articulate comparably about the boards and what he did/didn't like. Wish he got to ride all the boards in solid surf...too bad about Maurice though...lol.

Color matters to me... and most of what matters is doing it, not just how it looks in the end. I like the whole process of board building... from design, to shaping, to glassing and color work - whether it's paint or resin. It's how I get my art buzz on.

I still do color with epoxy, but the results are nowhere near the beauty of poly.

For boards where I like some weight... big wave boards and logs... I like poly. But for shortboards... HPSBs, grovelers, alt shapes and even fish... I like EPS/epoxy. They just take more of a beating on a day-to-day because I ride them more, and I ride them differently. So strength and durability are really important. They are harder to repair, but because they're stronger, they need less repair.

I knew some moron would retort this imbecility.
It is irrelevant who they are shaping for--still weak sh1t ass boards.

My surfboards work perfectly well, and they are not coffee-cup styrofoam boards. Do you buy your bords at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks, asshole??

A little off topic. But how light does a board really need to be? This is my thought process...

Pros want as light as board possible, ok got it. They sacrifice some strength because of it. Super light glassing. Ok. But a board glassed a bit heavier, in the same dims that pros ride, is still light. You can still rip, bust the fins out, boost. All that.

So while I do understand that pros boards are more disposable, I don't get why. I like my boards glass as heavy as possible within reason. That deffinitly adds some weight. But there's a in between as heavy as possible and as light as possible that'll still keep a board light.

Like I said. That hole Dane put in his board from hopping through a soft section is ridiculous. That shouldn't happen, pro or not.

Not only that, the excessively lightness of the board makes his movements jerky. no flow at all. Absolutely ugly surfing, classless. But hey, to each his own. I prefer fluid moves, flowing with the energy, smooth turns and long drawn out bottom turns, etc.
Todays surfers have lost that. They are morons; what else??

If you think Dane surfs ugly, jerky and classless I'd like to see what you consider good surfing... Get off my lawn

While I wouldn't call Danes surfing ugly, I do deffinitly prefer more fluid power surfing. Or even just more old school style surfing. Today's pros are doing some crazy things, but I'd much rather watch someone like Taylor Knox. Today's pros are deffinitly jerky between maneuvers, but then they pull off something crazy. Things are changing. Whether it's for better or worse is commonly subjective

I agree about liking power surfing, but Dane is a super fluid and powerful... He's just sick at airs too

I mean pros know want the lightest boards so they can blow tail and boost. I honestly don't find those maneuvers pleasing to watch. I'd rather see a man turn. And a heavier board would probably be better for those turns.

However, there are a select few who can pull off an air and a man turn. Like jjf. But the majority of pros deffinitly have a jerky style. Medina and fillipe, you can see an air coming a mile away. Pump pump pump pump pump pump pump pump pump half the wave was wasted pump pump air.

Nah I agree with you on that. I do think Dane is one of those pros who could pull both off. My comments weren't based off Danes surfing. Just pros in general nowa days

Word. I agree for sure. That's why I think Dane is so good. He can do both and links big turns with airs.

Moron...pretty funny...I get it, you like handmade shapes and don't like mass produce boards. I have seen it in many of your posts in the past. Hey, to each his own, but you think they are going to make those boards for Dane indestructible, of course not. You are coming off as all of those boards made by those companies are just garbage and fall apart...just isn't the case. But hey, iam not gonna call you a moron.

I like how Dane, Fanning, and Knox surf. Power and flow. I don't care about airs much, but every now and then it's cool. I prefer big turns, cutbacks, snaps, speed, throwing buckets, and linking it all together while maximizing the wave.
