How are those Mandala's? I follow them on Instagram and really like their boards. Visually appealing for sure, but how do they ride? Anyone?

Mine is a Flashback Fish shaped by Mike Daniel. He took one of his 80's designs and applied the new "kick" technology to it, which worked out great. I went with a 6'4" with 1.4cu.ft. of Volume, most of the extra foam is under the chest.

It works great in almost every condition from about thigh high - Well Overhead. It's seen a couple DOH days and served me well but that's pushing the limits a bit. One thing to keep in mind, if you like feather light boards the "kick technology" is great. If you don't like the feel of a light board and want something with more weight be sure to ask for that if you're going custom.

They do send shipments to certain shops to offer off-the-rack boards, so check with them on your local area if that's the route you want to go. Me personally, I would go custom all day every day to get exactly what works for you. It's an easy process, I did everything through email for the most part. Here's a couple pics of mine...

Mandala is just *one* person, there is no "their". He is a protégé of Rich "Toby" Pavel, who is one of the greatest "underground" shapers on the West Coast. Pavel is a longtime protégé of Steve Lis, inventor of the original twin-keeled Fish.

I've never personally ridden one, but I have a NorCal bud that's ridden a couple over the years and he raves about 'em. I mean, just look at his boards...you can automatically tell by the foil and outlines that he's creating something really special.

I tried a few years ago to contact him to shape me a board, but he responded by email saying something to the effect that he was "currently too busy" and he tries to maintain a certain amount of clients, etc. Definitely not a fantastic business model, but I've known many artists over the years and he fits the mould, if y'all get my drift. Pretty much cut from the same cloth as Toby and Lis for sure.

Which length? Do you dig it and what conditions do you typically have it out in?

Nice board, mine is slightly different, 6'10" shaped by Mike Daniel, before he went to Coil. Blue with black logo. Double Concave, pulled in swallow tail.
