i'm kinda bored by all the stuff going on here right now...the threads seem dead, but are somehow still going. so in the interest of something new & different, here's an asymmetrical longboard by ed & jeremy wright in california. designed by a regular foot for a goofyfoot.
makes me think of the asymetrical snowboards of days past. The flexion and estension of the rider on an asymetrical snowboard is different than on a symetrical and made it easier phisically to turn in one direction over another. The shape faded out along with the carving boards when freestyle took over the snowboard world. I think that if there is an advantage in surfing it would last longer through custom board shaping. Mass producers would stay away since it limits the sale of one shape. Sweet looking board thought.
Whoa... never saw that before. That little crescent on the heel side, along with the two rail fins makes me wonder... what the hell is he thinking! Pretty dramatic if you ask me. How does it ride? On the toe side I see a single rail fin, with no trailer, and a looooong rail line behind the fin. I question whether that will work on a hard frontside turn. I see some spin-out issues...
i would set it up w/ a big keel fin on the toe side & a split keel (like pavel's speed dialer template) on the heel...this would prevent spinouts (to some extent) & still lossen the board up backside. (no trailer needed) i've never ridden an asymmetrical board, but i imagine that it would be pretty fast & fiarly loose...look into carl ekstrom's boards for more surfboard oddities.
