You're supposed to pee on the wound, get your friends to pee on it too. 98.6 F, sterile and the urea neutralizes the venom. Don't do this if your friends are douche bags. At least the ray was small. You can easily bleed out from the gaping hole a good sized one will leave. There is a great antiseptic commercial fishermen use that will not kill the surrounding skin cells. Can't remember what it is right now, but I will post it in an edit after I remember the name. You should be soaking the wound in it. It's great stuff, you only need a 10% solution.

EDIT: It's BETADINE, comes in many different brands and you can pick it up at any drug store. Take a 5 gallon bucket and fill it up enough to cover your foot. Add solution until it tints slightly tea colored. Immerse foot for 15 minutes. Remove foot and let solution air dry. Rinse foot off and repeat every am and pm while wound is still open.

another old wife who doesn't know sh!t tellin tales

urinating on an internal wound will do nothing unless you inject it...that takes a REAL friend. it is too dilute and also, it is not hot enough. (vinegar, not urine, is good for jellyfish stings, which are external.) cleaning the wound is important so letting it bleed out a bit (as with any puncture wound) is a good idea. tetanus is an issue, so if you surf where there are rays (like seal and sunset out on the left coast) keep yer shots up to date.

    LOL.

Hey, my post was from experience. Seemed to ease the pain, but I understand there are other factors. I also went to the urgent care and got a tetanus shot and antibiotic shot just to be sure. Infections in hands and feet do not end well if you don't take care of them quickly. Safe: spending some $ at the doc. Sorry: See ya later foot, or leg below the knee.

most likely it was a baby. If you get hit by an adult you will know. the best thing to do is keep a working heat pack in your car at all times. activate it and wrap your foot. get to the closest bathtub you can find. you'll need to plug the bottom and keep filling it with SCOLDING hot water. basically as hot as you can stand so it can break down the venom proteins.

You were def lucky. when I worked beach patrol I saw adult stingrays take down 250 lb men like little babies. Some women say it hurt worse than child birth. Also seen a few slit the achilles tendons like a butter knife. glad your got off unsaved with no bard stuck inside. water shoes make it worse can lead to instant infection and have twice the chance of breaking the barb off in your foot.

Contrary to popular belief peeing on a stingray & jellyfish wound does not help, people think it does but its most likely the heat from the pee that makes it seem like its helping. Any doctor in their right mind will tell you this. Hot water helps stingray wounds, vinegar helps jellyfish wounds...and I think hot water helps destroy the venom of stonefish...I could be wrong on the stonefish thing..hope you feel better. Gotta do the stingray shuffle!!
