Stoke Therapy - The Surfers View http://thesurfersview.com/surf-features/stories/item/1071-stoke-therapy Please check this out. We need all the help we can get making people appreciate our soldiers, past and present. Thanks.
Matt, MANY thanks for what you have sacrificed for us. You are not alone in your new battle. Everyone who went over there brings back a scar be it physical or mental. Your surfing brothers are here to support you and fellow warriors. Staynstrong and slide on.
Thanks Chavez. I'm fairly ok. But if I can spread my issues, maybe other vets and civilians can find their stoke, whatever that may be.
Thanks for your service Matty. I am actually attending the following seminar this afternoon: This event will feature a discussion with senior executives from four non-profits that are actively pursuing unique ways to address and assist the many different disabilities facing the veterans from recent conflicts. Non-Profits included are Splore, National Center for Veterans Studies, National Ability Center, and Neuroworx. I already work occasionally with a group called Paradox Sports for disabled climbers that was founded by, but is not exclusive to, vets. When i am not working as much as i am now, i would like to do more to repay my debt to your community. Maybe then we can paddle out together and help some folks.
Good stuff Mattyb. Thanks for the link. You should consider writing something for the Inertia- they could use some legitimate story telling over there. I hope you snag some forgetful little peelers on this day of tribute.
Matt: Read the article. My son and I read your book not long after it came out. Thanks again for your service and sacrifice. Keep hanging in there. Take care.
Mattyb, thank you brother for your sacrifice. My dad was a Corpsman during Korea and he is no longer around to thank. If it wasn't for people like him and you, we would be slaves and surfing would not even be an option.
Thanks for your service Matty B! Also here is a good article on an NC Marine and surfing after losing his leg. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ne-loses-a-leg-but-not-his-life-as-an-athlete
I saw a guy down at Marias in PR who had lost a leg and paddled out into HH+ surf. He actually took his prosthetic off and left it on the beach. He would catch the wave and then get into a drop knee stance and surf the wave pretty well. I've also seen a guy or two here in FL who surf with the metal prosthetic leg, one in particular ripped! Very inspiring to see and it always reminds me to not complain or think I have it hard.
Can't vouche for surfing, but I went golfing in SD with a friend from the Wounded Warrior program. He lost his leg in Afghanistan. This guy proceeded to outdrive me by about 50 yards and smoked me by about 20 strokes in a full round. He shot like a straight 70 from the back tees. I was very, very humbled. He also still did some MMA work too. Guy just has the heart of a lion. Such an impressive guy. Super positive too.
