Wow Jerz really sucks more than I ever thought. Has been dope here on the EMass beaches. Wahines smathering themselves with lotions and drinking potions. Rain in Rhodey too even? Must be the spring of stoke here in EMass that's keeping the non-swell producing fronts away from our beach days. Sorry to hear Jerzans...
My storm story: We got hammered here (VB/Hampton Roads) this evening. Even now at 11:30, I can still hear the thunder out there. At around 6PM we were hit with very strong winds, heavy rain you couldn't see through while driving, lots of lightning, downed tree limbs, street flooding, and hail. The radio was playing that old Pina Colada song from 1980. I had taken my board with me this morning. It was an old, ugly and beat up Gnarloo Fatty (I'm sort of embarrassed) that I had picked from a local surf shop almost two years ago for my boys and I to learn on. The thing is a tank and has so much volume that it will catch just about any ripple. That's what was needed for this morning's ankle-knee high session before going work. Anyway, after work, thought I might go out for a paddle. It was lake flat out there. But with the storm coming, I decided to forgo it and head on home. Good thing I did. The storm came in fast. Trees were whipping back and forth, and broken limbs and branches were landing in the street. With the rain pouring down, I could barely see in front of me. Cars in front would suddenly stop, making matters worse. With the poor vis, it was hard to tell which sections of streets were flooded. Then the hail started. Strange sound. Didn't know what it was at first. Marble size balls of ice were bouncing off the hood and off the board still on the roof. Water was dripping in the car from the soft rack straps (one of the drawbacks of these type of racks). At that point, I was was glad I had brought the board I did. Not sure how the fiberglass of the other boards would've handled that hail, but the Fatty was no more beat up than it was this morning.
The pina colada song is the bomb!!! I can somehow see it playing on a transistor radio in creepy fashion during a tropical storm though... Btw bros, couldn't be nicer up here in EMass than today and tonight. Not gloating, just amazed we aren't getting clipped by the same and hope you buoys get the good high pressure weather soon with muchas olas of course.
