You lost me there...? All I was saying is that I define a long board no less than 9 feet. It's a none issue to me how many fins you chose to have on it.

It was a joke . All I have ever ridden was single fins . I thought thats what you wrote when you said you were riding single fins for 15 years.

Meaning we have been ridning single fins for so long we never knew they made boards with more than one fin

Multiple fins are just a fad like computers and the internet. Nothing like a pivot fin and a nice long drop knee turn. I guess thats why I still like pinball and ice hockey when both benches would empty during a brawl. Man I must be old. HA HA

Its not being old , Its knowing that timeless classics never go outa style.

I rember once I bought a 9'4 Cannible and the guy running the shop gave me the fins for the board and I handed him the 2 side fins back and kept the 9.0 long rake fin. He was like those come with the board. I replied to him they would never get used so you can have them. He took a extra 20 bucks off the board LOL

I have only done shortboard contests, but I have been out surfing in the lineups during many longboard events. That have the international women's world longboard championship every summer at my home beach, so I end up paddling out with all the international longboarders each year. They all have whatever they want it looks like. Most have the 3 fins setup, cause its a beach break, and lets be honest, when it was 8 feet last summer when they held it, they needed every fin they could get.

But in the men's division, I have seen quite a few Single fins guys. Mostly 3 finds on the high performance longboard competitors. So it must not matter, since Guys in the same heat have different setups. I just prefer 3 fins on a longboard if its bigger surf. Im all loosy goosy on the single fins on beach breaks. I mean, really I break my longboards out like once a year. Im only 29... Im thinking of getting into the LB thing in about 10 years =)

I am actually scheduled for a contest in La Jolla next week. They postponed it last week due to the gigantic 15-20 foot surf those days. They scheduled it at freakin Scripps and it was TOH! Waiting to hear from these jackas$es... But me and all the guys who are competing just drove down a few miles to this reef and just got INSANE surf all day... It was freaking ridiculous. I will post some pics once the guy from surfshot sends them. Pretty much everybody was getting shacked on every wave. And the photog got like 50 shots that day. Crazy.... looked like pipeline.

On bigger days I normally put a bigger fin in and it gives me the hold I need so the board dont slide out of the face. I never use any thing smaller than a 9 inch fin on a single cause it get to Squirly for my taste. I perfer and 10.5 or flex drive fin or a 11 inch pivot fin. I do a lot of nose riding and foot work so I need a fin that will keep the board stable and keep it locked when I am perched on the nose

Fad  Perhaps thinking over several generations/centuries, but neither will be going anywhere for a loooong time, at least not in our lifetime. And to think, people were still riding horses 100 years ago. I'm not too technologically savvy and have strong opinions on how society and technology work together (I don't/won't use a cellphone) but I believe they're here to stay for quite some time.

I was joking about the fad thing - If everybody went back to riding single fins it would be like people going back to bias ply tires and TV bebore cable. I just prefer a single fin although my Magic Model is a tri fin and I love that board. Has anyone tried a Turbo Tunnel Fin. I see the adds for them but it looks like a gimmick

I saw on the video it actually pulls the tail into the water. I don't know anyone who has one but for the price on e-bay I think I'll bolt one on and give it a try. If it will help me spend another few seconds on the nose its worth it. I wonder if you can use them in comp.

I dont know how they would work while on the nose . Since they have a narrow'er base I would assume they would be kinda sunstable on the for foot work and not keep the board locked in while getting some tip time in
