Looking for suggestions on a board. I just started surfing and I have a beginner funboard 8'2". I am looking for something in the smaller board range for the hurricane seasons. Some say a hybrid/fish other say a shortboard/longboard. I am 6' and about 170 + the wetsuit in the cold winter swells. I am looking for a board for the steep drop of Oc waves and some good speed. I do nothing fancy like smack the lip I just enjoy getting tubed. A shop owner suggested the Channel Islands M13 with the new material? expensive but looks like a nice board. what is the deal with the new material? Also possible travel in the near winter to Costa Rica and Southern Cal, Any ideas?
M-13 is a good choice, other though The M-13 is a good recommendation. The 7'0 or 7'6 may be what you are looking for. I ride Ultra Lite 7'8 made in Virginia Beach. Has a pretty sick rocker. http://www.ultralitesurfboards.com/ I would check around all the shops and see what boards you like the best. Also, do research of fin set ups, tail shapes and such so you can figure out the best board style for you.
i have a m13... it is still basically a funshape even though merrick says it isn't...it is a good board for transitioning to smaller boards though... paddles like a funshape but will be a little more responsive and def make it easier for steeper drops... epoxy is a personal choice... lighter and durable for sure... some people swear by it and others hate it
found board I found a used m-13 CI nontuflite 7' , 20", 2 3/4 Nice shape and used so a little easier on my wallet. It hads a slight pintail though and this brings me to my question: Is a pintail (slight) good? I was suprised to see this on it and I meant to ask the shop guy who I bought it from but forgot b/c I got excited. I am confused because I only have seen a square tail on this model? Thanks . Oh by the way Sun morning was sweet but my arms were slinkies.
