Does anyone know what the general rules and scoring for a surf contest are? I tend to do some sort of belly flop at the end of a lot of rides... Would I be penalized for that?

I think if you surf your heat in a banana hammock, you get more points

It depends on the way the wave finishes. if you have the opportunity for a closing maneuver and you do your flop thing you will lose points but if the wave dies on you and you do that your fine. as for scoring waves judges look at a variety of things, to variety of maneuver, height of wave, difficulty of maneuver, but it all depends on the contest and the conditions

check out the ESA pag. I think they have general scoring guidelines in there. You would def be penalized for the belly flop. it would show lack of skill in knowing when to kick out properly.
