Dude I feel your pain. I use to live in Bradley and surf it all the time. Until I found the secret spot at Belmar that is- you know 16th ave.

I don't remember hurricane swells being like this ten years ago. I remember that it would be just the locals in the fall and everyone was stoked, having a great time sharing waves and cheering each other on. Usually everyone out you knew or have seen around. Now it's like I might see 2 guys that I know. The rest are all Kelly slater stunt doubles. You know - the shredders who shred more then you or me- so they don't have to move out of your way. You have to move out of theirs. They are more important - even if your riding the wave. They are Kelly slater, remember??

See yea in the water- I would be stoked for the old days- and the Bradley crew from years ago.

The sh*t show exists at every beach in the world I bet. I've seen more "party waves" in PR the last 3 days then I can count, it's really amazing to watch 3-4 people all drop in on the same 6-8ft wave like that's the thing to do. Who cares bout safety? Fuk that, just drop in on them all and let God sort em out...

Oh yeah Belmar the Malibu of the East coast! I think the only other spot thats more of joke these days is Squan Inlet but atleast the locals there keep the unexperienced kooks off the good peaks!

ystdy i got double blocked (first time i let it go; second i got infuriated) by a goon on a longboard...his only saving
grace was that he had no idea what he was doing BOTH times. also got intentionally blocked twice by
    guys who should have known better...unless they knew exactly what they were doing. taking names;
    remembering faces.

Etiquette in surfing? There's no etiquette anywhere anymore. Douche baggery has taken over this country. Two parents almost got in a fight with a coach and the ref at my son's soccer game Saturday. It's the f@cking under 9 league. I was hunting so I missed the shenanigans but my wife was freaking. What the f@ck is wrong with people anymore? I have long lost patience for it in the water and on the road. I cannot surf around crowds anymore. The only place I tolerate it is in PR. I just stay at my crappy little South Jersey spots with next to no one out. I mentioned in another thread that I refuse to even step foot in OC NJ until January. I'm no internet tough guy, but I cannot tolerate it anymore and it's not worth me going back to prison and ruining everything in my life that I have fixed in the past 20 years.

We are partly to blame as well. We tell everyone on these sites that they are not 'real' surfers since they don't surf year round. Well now we have a bunch of people in the water now in the fall and spring who are not prepared and it makes things UNSAFE.

kids who look new to surfing-best just to move down some as ive seen way to many baords flying in the air
mostly i gave the right away to seasoned surfers and try to just stay out of their path, the one thing i cant tell though is SUP..they are constantly on the move... back and forth and hard to tell when they are gonna jump on one

Man, Y'all northern dudes need to chill. Everybody sounds so damn agro. Y'all need a cold beer, some southern hospitality and some good BBQ.

At what point up the coastline does everyone get so pissed off and aggressive? VB?

And this is somewhat on topic I suppose. But why is it that when you are in the water with some people, everybody is all grinch faced. We are all out there making sure that there is silent communication out there, but everyone acts all aloof and sh**.... Then you get to the parking lot and guys are like, sick wave out there bro. What size board is that. What happened to you hand? It's all laughs, but everyone out there during a chest high hurricane swell is acting like we are jocking for pipeline.

Funny how civil and friendly everyone gets OUT of the water. One of the guys that just struck up conversations with me, we have surfed in the same lineup probably 20 times, never said a word, but when we are loading up the gear, its like, hey bro, how is it going....

Not that its really a bad thing, but I think that speaks for surfers in general and how until we get our fix, everyone is on edge, sizing each other up... Once we get our dose of crack/surf, everyone's level of seriousness goes out the window....

    Funny.

Remember, Maryland is part of the glorious south. However being from there, I can attest to the aggression in the water, at least on the numbers streets. I've played the lets run each other over game and see how many yards on the other side of the rockpile I can take off in Mid-town all too many times.

I have always liked VB as a town. Not surfed there too many times, but I hear a lot of hate and a lot of horror stories there too. I think they just suffer from a small stretch of coast and too many restrictions.

    This is definitely true.

Combined with the improvements in wetsuite technology, enabling year-round kookasauruses to inhabit right next to you.
