haha wow thats really unfortunate for you man.. I have had some severe chaffing as well as all of you on the thighs, nips, belly button, pits, but had severe cases on nuts. i now have to wear superfreaks all the time and compression shorts under them at all times when surfing.. don't know if this as ever happened to any of you, but you know when your glued seems on your wetsuit start to crack? well happened to me right near my nuts so whenever i move weird while surfing or paddling it pinches my nuts and i'm in pain for the next 5 minutes..can anyone sympathize? But haven't really had major injuries while surfing though, i hit the pier once, shells in my butt, took a kooks nose into my back which hurt..a lot, and sliced the hell out of my big toe trying to jump from a pipe into the water.
I used to have huge chaffing problems. I bought a pair of lycra shorts (most wetsuit companies make them now) that I wear while trunking it. They are extremely comfortable and balls feel like butter when I get out of the water. Definately worth the investment. For post chaffing treatment theres nothing like good old corn starch (I used to live off the stuff when I was a waiter)
Ok first, for all you chaffers out there, I have the answer. Its this stuff called BodyGlide, its amazing! Its for like pro bikers to put on cause their spandex or whatever give them mad chaf***e also. But I'm telling ya, it works like a dream. The only place I could find it was in this bike shop near my house. But its definitly worth seeking out, cause this stuff is gold!! And 1. broken a vertebra from huge shore break when I was in 8th grade. I was down in rodanthe with a friend and his family, and some hurricane was off the coast. It was wayyyyy to big to surf, but the shorebreak was like 6 foot and heaving. So we would like skim on our knees on a bodyboard and launch out the backs of these massive shore break monsters. So needless to say we got pretty carried away and starting trying like double backflips and whatnot. The result was me landing straight on my noggin in about 2 feet of water. It was pretty gnarly. They said if i would have broken one vertebra up I would have died. But the break was not terrible and I was healed up in about a month and a half. It sucked though, I had to wear a neck brace. 2. And one time some craziness happened. I was surfing this really terrible old twin fin, and the tail was all messed up, as in half of it was gone and the other half was flimsy fiberglass. So I botched it on a takeoff, and I don't even really know what happened but somehow my lip just slammed into the tail. The sharp fiberglass part somehow cut me up under my lip, like where your upper lip meets your gums. It was pretty nasty, it bled soooo much. But that one healed really quick, cause the mouth is the fastest healing part in the body. So ya, really only 2 real surfing injuries, real as in had to go to the hospital for them. And other than that there have been countless reef cuts on shins, feet and forearms. LOOOOTTTSSS of chafing (before I found bodyglide), the occasional smack in face from a botched lip bash. You know the usual.
Yep I think ruptured testicle takes the cake! Jesus Christmas Disk problem has got me out now, hopefully only for another few weeks, but after reading this whole thread I feel like a pansie. I also truly dislike urchins. Got one of those puppies in my heel down at Soup Bowls about five years ago and carried it around with me for well over a year. Hurt whenever I came down on the heel wrong, then finally it must have just worked it's way out... Superfreak suits work well for the chafe, as does gold bond after you dry off.
well i have another injury to add to my list a torn tendon in the right knee that keeps it in place. it dislocated trying to squat like 225 and it pooped out now im in physical therapy for 3 weeks at least and cant surf for at least 2 but at the rate my knee is going it might be 3 weeks. but the injury happend like 2 weeks ago we went to doc last week and this is 1st week of physio. but my pt guy is cool kind of strange but he surfs which is pretty cool. but right now im in a brace that keeps the knee in made by breg its nice. but its a fancy one as it has all these straps and hinges on the side. but all i know is i cant wait to get in the water even though im probabl gonna suck the first few times back out.
I got Jock-itch from my wetsuit. It was really annoying. Recently I got into my friends car and I went to push myself up a little in the back seat and my foot slipped on the plastic mat and hit something underneath the seat in front. It bruised the top of my foot, but when I got out my big toe was covered in blood, where part of the nail chipped off and a little chunk of skin. that was a nasty shower... My shoulders get tired easily... once, I wiped out with my 8'0 funboard vertical with the tail sticking into my butt. Thankfully, nothing happened. I'm a featherweight.
any one ever have a shoulder surgery? mine was arthroscopic, not open, had it done on the 31st. im trying to pick peoples brains a bit, figuring out when's the soonest i can paddle out again...
I had the full surgery..three pins and all that fun stuff..Then ended up playing football after the surgery and took a good shot and knew it was time to hang it up. The best advice I will give you is do the PT and work hard at it..You will gain back most if not all your range of motion, but don't rush it. As for if your big into lifting give it like 5-6 months before you really get back into it...I used to lift a lot of shoulder stuff and took me about 2 more years to get back to where I was when I went in for surgery. As for bodyboarding with it pinned..its all good occasionally will hit the bottom and you will know which one is your bad one but nothing super bad...Dont over do it too soon, best advice to give you...Good luck with it
hey guys i have been suffering through a dislocated knee sports injury. the injury happend almost 2 months ago and i have been doing pt for ever. well what my question is if any of you had dislocated the pattela and after pt the knee is still in pain did your doctor do surgery on it? the reason i ask this is my orthopedic sent me for an mri and i was wondering if any of you had experienced this same type of injury and had to get surgery done on it. any help would be very appreciated.
srry man wish i could help you... but to add to the injury list, i just recently got back in the water earlier this week after a month on crutches, sprained ankle, it sucks cause i cant plant my front foot hard when i drop in, and when i try to do some turns its pointless...i hate not being able to carve but im glad im back in the water, pt 2x a day, i love it...
