Shaka is appears to be an established SE surf shop/school and maybe they're doing some kind of surf teacher gig thing that might be of interest to members here. If anyone feels otherwise, please flag it.
Two questions prease. Does the Shaka Surfboarting Skool require me to be able to swim in the oceans? Will my exceptional sand reconne skills be utilized? Asking for a friend...
I believe surf schools have a purpose. And that's almost every time i meet someone at a bar or club, they want me to teach them how to surf. I ask "do you have a board?" Hell No, they want to use mine. Thinking if they can't take enough initiative to get their own sh*t then they are a waste of my time. Call 1-800 SPLIT KOOK
Dude, I had some new guy at work over hear me talking about surfing and instantly says, "Hey, you could teach me how to surf!", like I would actually want to do that. They way he said it really annoyed me. It wasn't "will you teach me?" or "could we meet up?" It was like he was entitled to me teaching him. That conversation ended very quickly.
If I were to be a surf instructor, I would approach it like Chandler in North Shore. First few lessons we would just sit and watch. See that guy paddling straight at the guy dropping in? Don't do that. See that guy hopping the shoulder of the wave with the guy screaming down the line? Don't do that. See that guy ditching his board to go under that 3 foot wave? Don't do that.
We have several instructors at my local. I've never seen them actually ride a wave. The old adage: "Those who can't do...teach."
