I understand completely.... That would suck, as I live 1 min from the beach. I wouldn't tweet the info personally as I like my spots not crowded, but all I am saying is when you are not present or even close to a beach, and I wanna check the swell. A few resources like this website, few others and twitter paints a good picture as to what its like, and what to expect. I mean its no secret that there are waves on a certain day..... all iam saying is Twitter is an excellent tool, to cross check some information. I am as much against it as I am for it. But I dont see Twitter, or social networks slowing down anytime soon so, whatever man...... Getting angry/aggervated over it does you nothing...
Yeah, I misread your post. Sorry for the rant. Anyway, You get a point for that big word you used. I'm impressed.
I mean if you are that worried about people reading a report through Twitter and showing up, start your own Twitter account and give out some false info to the kooks that are less forunate. Sh_t can't believe everything you read.
if you really did live one minute from the beach, youd have at least half a dozen phone numbers you could call/text for an update forecast. i will never rely on twitter because i have a handful of friends who like me enough to let me know when/where its good and vice versa. i hate crowds but i dont mind if im surfing with a couple friends. i like swellinfo because it gives me a good forecast of what to expect in the upcoming week. i love the forums because its hilarious when yal start fighting and all i imagine is 13 yr old kids and 48 yr old geezers typing away tryin to act tough. keep it up
If my 3 yr old niece can use an ipad and browse facebook and take pictures, I'm sure any teenager with half a brain can go online and check any one of the many surf report sites and determine whether there's surfable waves or not. I don't think it will matter if the surf conditions are delivered via twitter or whatever social media bandwagon that everybody is on, if somebody is determined to go to the beach and surf, they will. Crowds are there because the sport is getting popular, not because of itelephones, smartphones, and twit twats, etc.
Unless if you live on hawaii or another shore with secret spots that no one knows of.. reality is reality. Surf reports exist, and the spot that you surf at (most likely) people know about. Especially in New Jersey, I maybe know one secret spot on this entire coastline. And im not even sure if its a secret lol! I think everyone should just accept the fact that if theres gonna be waves, theres gonna be other surfers. The best advice ever past down to me was "The amount of surfers in the water is dependant on how good of a surfer you are."
it's not about secret spots, it's about those times when the report is wrong and it's good and the crowds don't know about it. seriously, if you see an empty peak and your first reaction is to tell everyone via twitter or facebook, you're an effin' kook.
travy and supreme are right. simply get off you *ss and go check. no one cares if you at work or school. make an effort to check it just like you would to check twitter. theres wayy more than enough technology out there telling you theres waves.
It wasn't a joke. 8===> gobble gobble! Kook? Haha...you can call me whatever you like. I'd most likely surf circles around your ass though.
