I know i should be wearing some sort of eye protection but I'm just curious to see how many people actually do wear them. They look like they can be some what of a bother on big days. Is there anyone out there that uses surf glasses? If so how is it to wear them and what brand would you recommend. Thank you
How about shades for the beach. You know, the ones that are so dark others can't see you've got your eyes cranked way over to the side checking out all the "scenery" while listening to their blah blah conversation. Whatcha wearin?
I could go for some perscription sun shades these days. I have been graced with bad eyesight as well as partial color blindness. I cant see waves at dusk worth **** and my eyes get fried out of my head on the daily. I own a pair of nice pair of spys that I only wear when I dont want to see anything. I would probably surf better with a good set of eyeballs. I started skating with my glasses on just recently and have noticed a hell of a difference.
Thats why I make sure to wear the biggest Von Zippers I have to the beach. The side peices are super thick and start out as large as the lenses are, so I am totally off the radar. The trick is keeping the neck still. Ha!
I think every summer this comes up ... You should really try the search option for best results I got a pair off amazon for cheap- in the summer they are great with warm water/air.. Otherwise they fog easy. I have worn them in fairly good size surf and have never had them come off... Get a pair and when you paddle out all the summer pros will ask for your signature
You can wear any sunglasses, just strap them on tight with one of those 'Croakies' straps/lanyards. The lenses fog up when the water's cold, though.
I would use them in the water if I had to, but I HATE having things impede my vision while doing any kind of physical activity. Every pro golfer wears a hat. Most wear sunglasses too. Every shot I take in Golf, I lift the bill of my hat up so its completely out of my sight line. And wearing sunglasses interferes with my golf swing too. It just throws off my whole line of sight and takes a couple feet of visibility away from the down swing and stuff. I never used to wear sunglasses while driving, but it was necessary in CA where it was sunny every single day and the glares could get down right dangerous. I'm used to it now, but even driving with certain kinds of shades on gives you unneeded blind spots. I would assume it wouldn't have as much impact in surfing, but I could definitely see you losing some line of sight with any kind of eye wear on. It is probably the healthy way to go, but I think it would feel plenty un-natural. Just my two cents...
Same here...Fitz do you use one-day disposables? I wear two-week disposables regularly but got a bunch of dailys for the water.
Yes sir...dome eye docs will warn against it, but I've been doing it since I've been wearing contacts(13/14 yrs old)...they say there's potential for bacterial infections, which is why i use the dailys now, but in colder water I just wear my regular 2 week ones...just don't sleep with them in afterwards and give them a good cleaning. Most eye problems have occurred from fresh water use(bacteria wise).
I've seen them on one guy on a few overhead days and he swears by them. I forget the exact brand. Mornings give me a headache when its bright and glassy and after a couple of hours of squinting my eyes are more tired than my shoulders. And I can remember dropping down a well overhead wave at the Juno Pier one late afternoon, staring into the sun, and hearing the sickening crack of fiberglass as I ran some kook over. I couldn't even see him! Father's Day is coming. I keep forgetting what a sweet piece of gear these are.
i only use the one day disposable. I switched from the 2 week type after a bunch of eye infections... this was like 4 years ago. besides who the f opens their eyes under ny waters??? lol.
Seldom and I have the same story... eye docs will say no but if you must they say one day is the only ones to use.
