HHI does not have a surf shop. I am not kidding. I called all all the "shops" on the island to get some repair materials. I began the phone call with... "Is this an actual surf shop, or is this a surf retail store"... Answer: "Yes, this is an actual surf shop"... I then proceed with: "Do you sell any repair kits", "No". "Any Fiberglass": No.... "Any Resin": No... "FCS Fins"? What does FCS mean? "Solarez"??? "What's Solarez"? "Okay thanks..." I repeated this 3-4 times... I actually had to order resin off of amazon, then I went to Lowes and got some fiberglass sheets... Yikes.... It's not the perfect waves I miss from San Diego... Well, yes I do... But its just the little things that you always take for granted... The guy from Quiet Storm surf shop told me to drive up to Charleston to get my repair needs met... Nothing like a 2 hours drive for resin and fiberglass....
And if every previous surf shop on HHI didn't fail, I would seriously consider opening one... but since I am mostly the only d-bag on the island that has been out surfing for the past 60 days that I have seen, I understand that there isnt a big market... Some guys come out when its decent, but on those waist high clean days, its just lonely old me... Maybe I can purchase like 50 soft tops and post up down on Coligny in the summer and see what happens!
foamez.com I live in SD, and order stuff from them (like surfacing agent to make my own sanding resin from laminating resin).
