like several other people who have posted here i have the lodown and it is great. It looks real nice. The only thing so far is that it is a little bit thick, but i wouldn't let it stop you from getting it.
use the little freestyle shark watch best watch ever extremely cheap and probably last twice as long as other ones
G Shock. Less than 100 bucks. Durable, takes the pounding. My first one lasted 4 years of daily use. Surfed VB, Nica, Barbados, Argentina, Uruguay, OBX, DR, Assateague & that thing was on me all the way. 3 yr old nephew wrecked it, lol. Got another G Shock, it's going strong through VB, Assateague, OBX, Nica, Barbados & soon-to-be-Thailand. For what it's worth, Australian (RAN) Clearance Divers are issued with the G Shock. Army 4RAR and SASR go for the G Shock. Most other Regiments go with G Shock. G Shock for awesome value. Suunto, awesome timepiece but is x4 the price of Casio G Shock; Suunto is overkill for surfing. Esp with great info online at swellinfo.com.... Anyways, there's solid reasons the US Army recommends G Shock as SOP gear for Rangers. And not just cause the PX sells 'em.
This is so funny, mine just died on me after about 10 years. Went to their site and they've become really popular again. I ordered a throw back similar to the one I had. pretty cool. here's the link: http://www.freestyleusa.com/products/shark.php
More than just the Rangers, LT. I've been issued a Suunto, (2) Seiko titanium Aqualands, (2) Casio Pathfinders and (3) different versions of the G-shock. The G-shock is the only one that ran (without professional maintenance) until it's battery died, which is about 5 years. That's with countless illume and stopwatch uses. I'm not even going to get into what abuses they've endured. Some guys get pretty pretty funny about their watches, though, justifying the bells & whistles with a "need." It's definately a "to each their own" item.
I see Matts pushing Woody's again.....Yo Matt are you getting a cut or what? You know what Woody's can do ? Pull my woody!!! O yea I know just supporting my local shop. You know what? Fuk Woody's stop kissing his ass Matt. Hey guys go to Ebay.
Yawn ....................... 1. I dont get a cut and nor do I want one. I ride for the shop and I do what I can to help a friend out . If some has something he dont have I recomend that shop . I got just plaster the site with WOODY'S every place 2. He was looking for a tide watch in his price range. If you read my post instead on ranting like a as s hole you would see that I recomended the Rip Curl Oceantide first and second the nixon that is on sale at woodys for 90 dollars. Woody's dont even sell Rip Curl watches 3. What do you really care if I recomended Woodys or post something about a sale that is coming up. Hey if I can help someone save a couple bucks then thats cool. 4. Stop being a tool
nice man, may i ask what watch? wouldnt mind looking into one of them. Id love a tide watch for daily land/lifeguarding/wave check/fishing use, but will always use the shark in the water for its indestructibly and ease to read. lol just wish they would redesign the buttons so my wrist didnt accidentally hit them when paddling. I figure once im in im in and wont care about the tides anymore, just the fun.
Nixon quality sucks My first tide watch was a Rip Curl, which worked great for about 3 years, battery died, then after the new battery was in, it started fogging up. End of that watch. I should have sent it back in, b/c they have 5 year warranty, but didn't think to do that. Next I bought the Lodown from Nixon, wore it all the time for a year, surfing/snowboarding all the time, ... started fogging up, about a week later it died. Nixon service was nice, so they credited me the 90 bucks I paid originally, but they didn't have the blacked out lodown. I didn't want a hot electric blue watch, so i looked at their Channel T watch. I had to throw 90 bucks more to get it because it was priced more, but I was expecting to get better quality. It has swiss movement and quarts lense, seemed like a good deal. Well about a month ago I noticed some fog, and a few weeks ago, it stopped working. Only had that watch just over a year. I'm pretty sick of nixon because that's two watches that didn't have batteries changed (seal not broken) that have quit working on me. They do have good service, but I'm sick of a watch that I can't take surfing/boarding year round. I'd don't have any watches to recommend, but stay away from nixon if you plan on wearing it surfing everytime you go out.
Ok heres the deal.... if you buy a nixon and it breaks down...goodluck with their service dept. its horrible. They make cool watches, but break down, or are off for the tide or what have you... if you buy ripcurl and it breaks down....send it back to them and they will fix it for free no questions asked....if the battery dies, send it to them DO NOT GET IT FIXED SOMEWHERE ELSE! Ripcurl will re-seal it and pressurize it when the battery is changed. All for a cost of around 15 bucks.
Ok, just talked to a Nixon Rep today, and they said my watch couldn't be fixed, but they would give me 200 credit for the watch, which is what I paid a year ago (with the replacement on the first nixon i had) so I wanted to get another watch just like it, but they are all out of stock. so I was forced to choose a different watch, and didn't want to choose a watch that was cheaper than the 200, because I would not get refunded, so I went with the Super Hero SS. I don't know if I should wear a watch like that surfing, its all stainless steel, but feel like the clasp might not be as reliable as the polyurethane straps. I'll let you know how I feel about it after i get it. Recommendation is to stay away from nixon. Even though they are replacing the watches that break, i don't like dealing with broken watches every year.
go to http://shop.lockerz.com/apparel-accessories/watches.html the lowdown which i just got was 65 with shipping included ordered it on 23 got it 24 with free one day shipping... so basically im souped they also got other cheap watches like g-shock and stuff
I bought my Rip Curl Ocean tide in 1999 battery died after 4 years reaplaced it and in 2009 the tide didnt read correctly here to find out that 2009 was the highest they went for moon phase and tide so its pretty much only good for is time now I might get a Nixon they look pretty nice and price is right I am not gonna throw that kinds coin down on a rip curl agian
i have the nixon lowdown. great surf watch. some are like 90 and some are like 125. try heritage in sea isle. they have a bunch
epic watch thread Rip Curls are nice. However, this is my 3rd rip curl and apparently it cant hold a vacuum anymore which means its no longer waterproof. I'm not supposed to take it out into the water but I still do. Its an inevitable end to my third watch, which seems to be holding out in the shower and under a wetsuit. Casio's are somewhere in freestyle's league but I like there styling a bit better. Nixons are too stylish and way too expensive. I can agree that the Freestyle watches are cheap and reliable and I think I might source a used one, but do you guys really like the looks? I don't want to be vain, but I prefer analog faces over digital. Just my preference, but I require some class to accent my pinky ring and cuff links. But you know what's weird? That the sidebar ads are all for watches when viewing this thread!!!
i have a freestyle killer shark model it sells for like 80$. i love it does what i want as i dont need a tide watch since i can just look on my phone with the tide charts plus the tides on the watches always reseted on me so i gave up on them.
i use the smaller shark freestyle model, and i love it but you can buy either a big or small model depending on your preference
