Probs been a thread, but I'm new to this. I recently learned that not all surf wax is the same. I got a used board that had some kind of wax on it. I put some jimbos surf wax on it, and it didnt really blend well- it kinda smeared instead of bumped up. but after i scraped everything off and applied all new jimbos, it came out sweet- nice little bumps that smell real good.

Got me thinking- what do you know and love about wax? Do you swear by one brand? Do you care? Do you even use it? Are you one of those spray-on grip goo fan? Full deck pad?

I like Mrs Palmer's and her five daughters strictly for the name. I like the smell of Sticky Bumps. Sex wax is over rated. I am a firm believer that you can use tropical wax 24/7 365 anywhere... (That being said, the coldest water I have ever surfed is 45 degrees.)

I've been trying to figure out which soap works best all the time to get the wax out that does a great job.

I like to use Sticky bumps, even though Gaff says it tastes bad. I think Jimbos is similar they just don't carry it all the time at the surf shop that does great.

Screwbs funny you say that, bc I feel like cool to cold does a great job all the time up here and it works great.

Sticky Bumps for me. Sex Wax is indeed overrated. Cool temp seems to work best in the widest range of conditions -except summer, obviously.

How often should you strip all the wax of your board and put "fresh" wax on? It depends on how much you surf, if you surf everyday I would say once a week otherwise twice a month should be fine.

Says the owner of Famous Surf Wax...

    Questionne to all of you?
I strip my boards down to nekked every spring, and then just add wax or comb it. Sometimes they are pretty black come spring but I saved a whole dollah fiddy per board... Actually it's really about the time involved.

I like my wax like I like my herb, the stickier and stronger smelling the better, and like it that way, every time.

I agree with using palmers...however, quick hump sex wax is great. Just never let your board overheat and you're good to go...otherwise...its a flaking mess...

We wax the bottoms of our borts, like skis and snow borts, so they go faster.

Seriously, I've been eyeing a couple cork top boards... Anybody ever ride one?

Jimbos didn't work for me up here with low temps, just glassed up...same with sex wax

Sticky bumps all the way or palmers, with a good base layer of whatevs to get it to adhere and bump better
