It's about that time of the year to strip off all that black, coldwater wax. I'll probably just stick my boards in the sun and use one of my scrapers to get the wax off but any suggestions or products to use to get the whole board really nice and clean? They look disgusting now.

i'll use my wife's hair dryer on low to get the leftover residue off after scraping if i really want to get it clean. sometimes i need a quick wipe w/ wax remover to get any leftover carbon the transferred to the board from my suit

just use a razor blade, dull one is better, best with the paint scraper handle. better if wax is cold. if want super clean, after that use the green steal wool to wipe down whole board.

Careful in the sun. Don't forget about it sometimes they get these weird air filled bumps in them. The cream doesn't even make the bumps on your stick go away. You basically gotta cut them off your stick.

all above methods work. I would forgo the razor blade though. I scrape with a comb/plastic spackle knife and use a use a heat gun...always does the trick. Have had a number of issues laying boards in the sun...no control of the amount of heat.

Justgot my new board delivered from California. Just a little dust off and ready to set layer 1 of wax. Looks like Friday may be the maiden voyage...

i use "natural orange" air freshner spray to get the last bit of wax residue off the board. its 100% natural, pure orange oil and it melts the wax on contact. that stuff will melt pretty much any adhesive and wont touch your glass or epoxy finish. it will however take paint off if the board is painted dont leave it on too long.

they sell it at home depot for like $5 for 2 cans, in the cleaning chemical isle. cant say enough about how well this stuff works. it can even take stubborn old track pad glue off with minimal effort.

its like goo gone, but works better and is completely non toxic.

    smells nice too :)

Nice to know. I should probably give all my old boards a once over. Most are collecting dust on the man cave wall with 5 years old wax since I moved.

Head high's got it. I do the same but to get the oily residue off the board, I finish with corn starch. Just sprinkle it all over the board and it sucks up the orange grease. Do NOT use Corn meal...

WD40 does a great job of getting rid of the last residue.

Definitely PICKLE. Every surf shop should carry. Scrape of majority then use the pickle.

Got around to cleaning my boards today using the Real Citrus product you recommended. Thanks for turning me on to this stuff!! Put my cold water waxed boards in the 80 degree sun for about 90 seconds, scraped em, applied this spray, towel wiped and they look brand spanking new. What I really liked about this product is that my boards weren't slippery after cleaning. I had to rub pretty good to get some of the wax off but it easily takes glove stains off your rails plus other grime. A little before and after pic.

Yep I have been using the same stuff as Headhigh for years. Works like a charm and your board looks like it is brand new.

Hair dryer and direct heat are no good for your glass job

Same goes for acatone - it's a solvent and will totally eat up resin

    Use goo gone

Or take a cup of hot water and pour it on an area and use a wax scraper

I use to leave it in the sun to get the melt started, but the last time I did that, it was a new board and I could literally see the areas not covered in wax had turned yellow. Now I just scrape off as much as I can at room temp, then buff out the rough spots with a rag...I mean, seriously, you're just going to put wax back on and do it all over again withing a couple months.

Only when I sell a board do I go all out...that's when I break out the snowboard base cleaner (citric only, no naptha).
