Anyone know of a way to strap a surfboard to a motorcycle? I've seen the racks you can buy for bicycles but I've heard that they are too flimsy for a motorcycle. If anyone has any experience with this or has any ideas, please let me know! -Mahalo
i have seen them in hawaii on little mopeds, but all homemade rigged ones, but if you plan on going more than 30 i think you basically asking to dump your bike.
trailer type rig maybe so the drag and **** on the one side doesn't take you out. Idk how legal that is or how practical
ive seen people on mopeds going about 45 to 50 with a surfboard strapped to the side. What makes you say it will dump the bike?
that might be a good idea, they actually have those for bicycles too. I have a feeling that might not be legal too though
remembered seeing something on the 'erbb for a guy going to baja...if I remember right they were custom welded to the frame. Or you could just go this route... found the link...http://forum.surfermag.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1136919&an=&page=0&vc=1
I had a rack on my Ruckus but unless you rode like the one above it went Sloooowwww. Lots of drag even on the side of the bike.
Last time I was in Biarritz ..a bunch of people a had some rack on their Vespa. Wouldnt want to take a turn too fast thats for sure
I have a friend down in Costa Rica who rides sitting on the nose of his shortboard just like in live4truth's picture. I've seen him go pretty fast like that (traffic laws are pretty lax) and he says he's never had a problem with it. I highly doubt it's legal around here though...
I just got a bike and have been wondering about this very same question! Those photos are great but i bet at higher speeds you might have some issues. Theres also the sidecar option......
Hey, Carver surf racks has a moped rack that is very sturdy and works great! I use it on my XR400R dual sport every ride to the beach. You have to have a rack on the back of your bike for it to work though. http://www.amazon.com/Carver-Scooter-Surf-Rack-Moped/dp/B001GMR3TC Here is one on Amazon. I have ridden with it up to 60mph.
when i was there many moons ago they just slid the board horizontally between their back and backpack...all while flying down steep mountainside roads. Some even mopedpooled with another guy on the back with his board the same way. Looked nuts to me especially for anyone walking down the side of the road.

There is def a company that makes racks for scooters and motorcycles, there have to be 100s of those things running around mission and pacific beach.
lol I love the ruckus picture! I would be alittle worried about a side gust pushing you over some, short distance and I think you'll be ok. Find some angled aluminum and you could make your own I bet with some ingenuity.
Motorcycle racks Call my buddy John Stull He actually rides motorcycles and surfs (like we do), though I use my truck to take my board. He actually has manufactured racks for bikes and uses his bike to go surf... 803-673-9106
i grew up around motorcycles and raced them for 10+ years (gota get my credibility in there somewhere). i feel like this is a horrible idea. one gust of wind and your goin down. even just riding my bike to the beach with a board under my arms in the wind is hard enough. do what you want i just personally wouldn't try it.
thats true, get a side car and strap the surfboard in that, that way you could also carry other gear like a wetsuit and stuff
Motorcycle Rack One of my customers stopped by with his bike. He is a welder by trade and might make one for you. Austin
