Scott Busbey rips. 63. Shapes everything. By hand. Eyes it, feels it, thinks. Genius. All my boards are in the eye. Uses minimal electricity. Mostly hand tools, hands, eyes snd mind, heart, soul and strength.gets the best and most waves, and the deepest, dryest tube ride on the best day of the year. Curtis is awesome in his own brilliant role as well. Surfing is a natural art.

    ^get a room.

yes, someone who can't surf can be a good shaper...but it's rare. These people may just be uncoordinated or just not have the knack for stand up board sports, but are gifted in other areas such as design and/or an intense interest in hydrodynamics, etc. Plus, even a complete idiot can create a "magic" board every once in a while.

However, the best shapers are usually those with the most experience...and they are usually surfers or former surfers.

Definitely don't want an uncoordinated person shaping for me!

stretch is a former surfer, and a very good one from what I gather. Only reason he stopped is an accident that left him temporarily paralyzed...and he was never the same after.

Didnt something similar happen to Owl Chapman..? Way before my time, but i remember reading an article saying he had a gnarly wipeout at Waimea and was never the same after it.

mostly shaped "rocket fish" with fin boxes dry fitted. Dims are about 6'1" x 19 3/4" x 2 7/16"

Its been a while since I rode a board with this kind of shape, and not with the quad/tri option. Kind of stoked to fool around with it is decent waves this summer. Very pronounced single concave from under the chest into the fin area, transitioning to a slight vee with double concave out the back.

thanks. looking at the board i think i see a bit of a flat spot about 2 feet back from the nose...maybe 2 1/2 feet back. Hopefully nothing that would matter ride wise. I'm stoked on the tail and bump wings.

Its made with a Teccel 6'8" shortboard blank. I picked up a bunch of random SB blanks from a guy up in the Philly area who was getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I got several of these.....6'8" x 20 7/8"...intended for step -ups or big guy SBs which i have no interest in shaping but the price was right.

Nice work mitchell. My step up is pretty similar to that with similar dims. Except mine is a round tail that's pulled in a bit more, wide point more forward. I think you'll have fun on that thing

I doubt it will have any noticeable affect. Look at those "incut" templates guys are working with... planshapes can be pretty forgiving in the front two thirds. It's the back two thirds... where water releases... that's much more critical. As long as you have an adequate balance in overall volume, you can get away with a lot up front.

What's interesting to me is that concave... you started it pretty far back? Left it flat in the entry?

Clean looking board. Being an old guy I simply can't wrap my head around all those fin possibilities. Not hating - seen plenty of great surfing on them. All my boards are single so perhaps I am just a fuddy duddy

I am older than you. You are indeed a fuddy duddy!!
Five fins are "A OK". Single fin--brrrpppp!!!
Surrender your surfboard to the authorities!! You need to buy a rocking chair and start extreme knitting.!!!

That's what i was thinking tard. If it was more forward it would look exactly like what i do ride minus a diffrent tail shape.

Is this an illusion, done by accident, or on purpose? If on purpose, then why?

No I just wasnt giving a precise description. Front 8 inches has belly, around a foot back it is flat, from a foot back right to the front of the fin cluster is a deep single concave, in the middle of the fin cluster back to flat with a double concave (if that even makes sense) from the rear fins out the tail slight vee with slight double concave.

I think its the way the board is leaning with tail closer to the camera...:)...because i wasnt trying to pull the wide point behind center...haha. All my small wave boards have the wide point forward of center.

ok I measured it. At its widest, it holds 19 3/4" from exactly the mid point to a couple inches behind midpoint.

I have no idea if that is atypical for this kind of shape. I want a board that i can ride off my rear foot, so i kind of figured wide point near center might make sense.

Sweet. Curious to hear how it rides. Basically all my boards have the wide point forward, or at least at the mid point. So that's a design feature in not used to. Fill us in on the ride when you get it out in the water

Picked up a new board and went back to my roots this past week. It's a 5.9 x 19.5 x 2 5/8 that has the five fin option. I decided to mainly ride it as a thruster and bought the Mick Fanning FCS's. If you're from NC or learned in NC chances are high it was probably on an Action. Way back in the day a 6'8 Action was my very first board and it lasted me a good 3 or 4 years. If you're into Motocross, Cooper Webb is the son of this particular shaper. I'm hoping this board will be fun in solid average to very good waves. It's a beautiful shape and feels good in my hands. Now if we can just get some swell!
