You’ve also probably never worn a 6/5/4 in 10 degree air with snowflakes flying in your face as you bust out of a blizzard swell barrel. Btw I’m in Florida right now where are you surfing? Think I’m gonna go paddle out on Singer island.

This thread actually got me thinking....I don't usually have problems with slick wax except for a sesh here or there on the coldest days. I believe it's just because i just throw cold wax over cool/warm. I rarely strip my wax off and apply cold for winter. Which i really should do.

Going to do some research later to see if i can find any colder wax. I'm curious. Like i mentioned. It gets cold. A colder wax couldn't hurt. Its worth a try if its out there

I hear you, but i’ve never seen a wax for anything colder than “cold”, once it drops below 60 just use cold. If you happen to find a wax that is rated for the Arctic let me know, it may come in handy lol

I surfed Satellite Beach this morning. It was a blast. Have fun down there!

That 1X Sticky Sex Was is *very* sticky. Works great in temps under 50 but is messy and will stick to certain parts of a wetsuit.

Our water is currently 47 and the sticky stuff hardly gets used by anyone around here, we stick with 2X

Jimbo's cold or sticky bumps cold but I don't surf in the dead of winter (i.e. when the air or water is under 36 or so.

I like the 1X in the middle of winter when the water temp is in high 30's (some years) or low 40's... but you are right- its extra sticky/messy in anything above 45/50...

one thing I like about it is that I can keep it in my truck and even when the air temp is below freezing its still just the right softness to easily wax a board.

Looks like there are waxes for lower temps. Good find.... looks like i learned somthing new today. Its easy to say just use cold when your sitting in warm FL waters. But anyone up north who has had water freeze to there board..... I'm definitely going to give some of these a shot. Granted its only needed for the super super cold days. But I'm not stripping wax depending on temps

^^^ oh man don't remind me of those super cold days when the air ends up freezing a thin layer of water ontop of your board!

I wonder what those dudes out in the Great Lakes use- they really get colder water and air then us- literally surfing with ice burgs and it's water so the freezing point is at 32 and salt water is around 28... not that I have ever seen it get that cold- coldest I recall is 37

Dude I'm telling you.... what i saw a few winters ago was the craziest iv ever seen. It was during that whole winter vortex thing. The waters edge looked like it was riddled with rocks when i first came over the dune. As i got closer i realized the wet sand literally froze into big chunks and got broken apart. The water had legit boulders of ice and sand. Not just a few either. There was allot. Soooo sketchy. But it was like chest high and prefect. I only got a wave or two then got the hell out before i took a iceberg to the head.

Icebergs ranged from baseball size to about a foot/foot and a half wide. Never saw that before and hadn't seen it since. As the tide dropped the wet sand must of froze and got broken up into chunks and pulled out into the water. That's the only explanation i can think of. But they sure as hell looked like more ice than sand.

Either way. That was a really cool experience and the fact that the waves were good made it even better. I'll never forget that day

I wasn't around back then lol back I did just see an old vintage longboard that this guy was selling- it sat in his basement for years! AND it still had slipcheck on the nose and on the tail lol I think it was Tom Morey who came up with the stuff??

    I think El Gripo too..

One of the was like a film that you stick on the deck. I had some of it at one point and put a strip of it on the edge of my hobie cat pontoons, where your feet would go when hiking out, worked great! It was painful if your feet slipped while your on the wire... then bang against the boat... then boat flips if your not quick! lol that stuff actually stayed on pretty good too... idk how it would feel on your chest if you put it on a board!! Talk about a rash, maybe even an abrasion burn!

I always use sticky bumps.just love the way it smells.not too fond on the different temp bars, the wax is always on the board,i don't have to wax up every time I go out,do people actually do that?its wax lol, doesnt come off that easy unless u scrape it.i still got melted wax in my glove dpt in the car from 5 years ago that's still living.

alls I gots to say is if u just bought a brande neuw borate, and u have tropical wax,it isn't going to affect ur surfing.iv used candle wax before.its ok
