Yes, and you should be honored to be called a moron.
This here site is Moron University, where, if you are not when you join in, you are a moron immediately after your first post. Summa Cum Moron.

If you rub icy hot all over the inside of your suite, you should be goode!

Its definately not just the rubber...im wearing basicallly the same rubber at 45 as 34 water temp.

IDK what practical effect it has, but the viscosity of 32 F. water is about double that of 75 F. water.

For me anyway the feeling is more like increased surface tension limiting speed once up and riding.

I think its interesting that this website also says this:
"As you can see, it decreases smoothly as temperature increases. Below the freezing point, the viscosity is harder to define (although large masses of ice do flow), but the curve is discontinuous and it "jumps up" to some higher value."

Makes me wonder what is going on when the ocean is near freezing and the air just above the ocean surface is well below freezing.

Mitch... These numbers are for fresh water. Salt water is already more dense, has a higher specific heat, and lower freezing temperature and higher boiling point. So the curve will look much different for ocean water, with all of the dissolved minerals.

You guys are smart and critical thinkers. Good to have around. I've seriously learned a lot from both of you.

There are some purty smart fellas on this here site.

As for surface tension of salt water, and how it's affected by temperature... check this out. As it turns out, there is a high degree of "uncertainty," as strange as that sounds. This is not a great graph, but assuming we're talking about 35ppt salinity (which is the average for open ocean salt water) check out the line the triangles make if you were to connect them:

    Ok, ok, ok

Let's get away from the nerd $hit & back to the original Q, ok scientists?

How much ice would offset bort volume?

Dude, you asked two (maybe more) different questions now:

Is there a difference between volueme and volume?
Is there a difference between effects and offset?

Anyway. I have no idea. SRY

    Le' Roye

It seems that this topic has been debated before with our long time surf guru and master of designing in surfing physics, Roy...

So, I will take the blame for laying out this troll line but I would be interested and fascinated and I'm sure others would too I f we could get a technician on such matters in here.
Heated surfboards maybe? They already have computers in them.
Think of the tech possibilities this surfing boom brings...
Wich means warmer people in the water, just hug your rails for comfort. All this means warmer happier people on the websites to talk about things like spray rainbows wich will in turn bring more site members.
It may one day, be history.
Cold water slows me down, cause I don't surf fast enough. That's what happens
